KNIGHT UNDER FIRE
LOS ANGELES - WFWF Color Commentator Daniel Knight may have brought about a Twitter storm that could ultimately prove drenching to his storied career.
Late Monday night, amid the fallout of the recent Second to None event in Chicago, the sharp tongued half of the WFWF’s ringside commentary team dove headfirst into a war of words with up and coming rookie, the incomparably vibrant Mesh. While Knight has been outspokenly critical of Mesh’s presentation since the young star’s impressive debut, what started as a tense difference of opinion quickly escalated into a series of jabs that many are calling unbecoming of such a key company mouthpiece.
Watchful fans of the WFWF will recall that Mesh, through her own broadcast avenues, recently opened up about her familial past, touching upon her relationship with and the eventual passing of her father in particular detail. While such topics are often ripe for the picking among the WFWF superstars in their perpetual quest to undermine one another in the pursuit of a psychological advantage in the ring, such barbs seem to be resonating ill among the wrestling community coming from a non-athlete such as Mr. Knight. Such was the topic of this morning’s broadcast of Wrestling Spectator: Live! with longtime industry journalist, Allen “All-In” Neal.
”Bottom line? Knight’s comments are off-base, if only for his complete and utter inability to back them up inside the ring. This is a man who’s made the act of speaking his career, and while bestowed with some degree of license to inject a certain amount of flavor into his words, Knight’s duties, at the end of the day, begin and end with his commentary of the going-ons within the ring.”
Neal’s comments seem to have resonated with his audience, many of whom called in to the daily program to voice their support for the rising fan-favorite and their varying degrees of disdain for the increasingly disgraced commentator. One caller, Bray from Snake Bight, seemed to incite the most furor out of Neal, inquiring as to what punitive measures, if any, should be taken against Knight for his online engagements.
”It’s an interesting discussion, thank you, Bray. I think...you know...we live in changing times. Actions have consequences. They have to. Words have immense weight compared to ten, fifteen, hell, even five years ago. If it were me? Absolutely. A thousand percent - yes. Something has to come of this. To set aside the basic modicum of respect for your talents, even for a moment - we’re days away from an international showcase that’ll see the WFWF peddling its wares to markets throughout the world. Is, you know...if this the image you want to bring with you? Fans pay for a certain degree of depravity - to say otherwise is just a fool’s game - but, at least to me? It all comes back to the squared circle. Does Daniel Knight eat these words between the ropes? No. As such, he’s got to eat them where it might just hurt a bit more, and that’s at a professional level. Do I leave him behind as we head to Japan? Absolutely. Is there a conversation looming when we return? Maybe. I don’t know.”
At press time, WFWF General Manager Lila Sleater has yet to comment on this turn of events, but it's clear the eyes of the WFWF Multiverse and the world at large are fixed solely upon this situation, at least for the moment.
