”Supreme Gauntlet 17 - Night 5: Supreme Colonel Sanders Tribute”
LIVE The KFC Yum! Center, Louisville, Kentucky!
BOOM! That’s a firework! BOOM! That’s another firework! BOOM! S**t I think I just hit someone. They warned me not to do this and drive. There's fried chicken everywhere. In everyone's lap, in the stands even at commentary.
Alecia Matthews: Ladies and gentlemen welcome to the final show of the Supreme Gauntlet group stages and God bless Colonel Sandwich. Tonight Trace Demon, Joe Bishop, Daniel Brennan and Ante Whitner fight for the right to compete not only to win the Supreme Gauntlet but also to be the next WFWF World Heavyweight Champion.
Daniel Knight: It’s a huge night for those four for sure, but that’s not all the action that we have tonight. We’re kicking off with tag team action with two very unusual teams. It's nuggets and wings fighting alongside each other. Madness.
Mike Jette's theme "Fire Away" hits the PA and out he comes.
Alecia Matthews: Well this wasn't on the notes.
Daniel Knight: No, here it is. You're just terrible at your job.
Jette's into the ring to a chorus of boos from the The KFC Yum! Center. He grabs a mic and stands with an apathetic look to the hate at his door.
Mike Jette: I've had a lot of people asking me.....
Alecia Matthews: He's gonna say 'why Thunderbird, why' isn't he?
Mike Jette: ....who the f*ck do you think you are?
Daniel Knight: Zing!
The crowd let's Mike know who they think he is. An as$hole that's who.
Mike Jette: I did nothing you wouldn't do. I saw an opportunity.
He let's the words hang for a second.
Mike Jette: Brandon Bison has been gifted an opportunity himself, and all I did was make his gain my own. No one's talking about his shot at Ante now, they're talking about his shot at ME, and when I beat him they'll have no choice but to hand over that shot at Whitner.
"Running Free" hits the system and the crowd pops as Brandon Bison makes his way down to the ring looking non too happy. He slides under the bottom rope and gets right up in Jette's face who pushes right back. Bison grabs the mic from Jette.
Brandon Bison: You're half right moron. Lila Sleater has already told me if Ante comes up short tonight then I get my match at Ultimate Supremacy, but equally there was a big OR in there. What was it she said? Oh that was it, OR I can beat some respect into you Thuderpunk.
The crowd loves the idea but so does Jette. His plan has worked to perfection.
Brandon Bison: You're not taking any kind of opportunities from me, I've earned what I got, and beating you gives me a chance for even more momentum on that upward climb.
Jette shrugs and chuckles and goes to leave the ring and Bison takes a moment to take in the crowd cheering him on. Before he knows it though Jette sidesteps from the ropes and scoops him up with The Extinguisher. Jette stays on the mat after hitting the move and just pats Bison on the back, picking the mic back up.
Mike Jette: Sorry to cut in man but I'll just stop you there and see you at the Pay Per View.
With that Jette rolls out of the ring and makes his way up the ramp without looking back.
Daniel Knight: Well that was a pretty clear cut message. We've got ourselves a non-tounrmanet match for Ultimate Supremacy. Jette just baited Brandon Bison into a fight.
Alecia Matthews: But can Jette take Bison head on, no funny business?
Daniel Knight: Jette's already inside his head. Just call the card Alecia.
Alecia Matthews: F*ck off. Where were we? Reverend Shadow and Frank Lynn against Scarlett Quinn and Tyson Watts, not exactly WFWF Tag Team Championship material.
Daniel Knight: Do you even know who the last 2 sets of Tag Team Champions are?
The lesser experienced competitors kick things off as Frank Lynn and Tyson Watts go at it while Scarlett Quinn and Reverend Shadow, both former WFWF World Champions, wait in the wings. The two go back and forth exchanging offence with the more experienced Lynn getting the better of it thanks to a few stiff strikes. Lynn connects with the Sling Blade and sets up for the Canadian Destroyer but Watts shows great ring awareness by pushing Lynn backwards into Watts’ corner where Scarlett catches him with an elbow to the back of the head and then tags herself in. Quinn controls Lynn, working him over with some quick fire offence before Lynn catches her with a wicked dropkick that lets him tag in The Reverend. Shadow methodically works over Scarlett Quinn, showing some finely turned offence and connecting with multiple German suplexes to the youngest world champion in WFWF history. Shadow continues the attack, eventually setting up Scarlett for the Alpha but Scarlett counters it into a bridging Northern Lights suplex for the near fall. Scarlett backs up, waiting for Shadow to rise… Drive-By-Kick! But Shadow dodges it and tags Lynn in, rolling out of the ring. Lynn’s caught off guard by the tag and waits a second too long to get into the ring because when he does… Drive-By-Kick! Lynn’s down! Scarlett’s about to go for the cover…
Trace Demon: Now I’m sorry to have to interrupt this match but I have something a tad more important to announce.
Alecia Matthews: What the hell is he doing out here?
Daniel Knight: Didn’t you hear? He’s got something more important to announce.
Scarlett Quinn is just as confused to see Trace standing atop the stage, but that quickly gives way to anger at the sight of a man she certainly has no love lost for.
Trace Demon: I know you were all looking forward to seeing that match between Anna Ahriman and Hugh Jass later tonight, I mean I know I was, what a barnburner that promised to be, but it is with great sorrow I have to announce that that match won’t be going ahead. You see after the last show, where I broke and humiliated that poor, pathetic little girl, Anna decided that she wouldn’t even bother to show up tonight! Of course I’m not that surprised, I’ve got plenty of experience with little girls quitting after I humiliate them inside that ring. Isn’t that right…
The crowd boo loudly as Scarlett shouts at Trace to come and face her.
Trace Demon: Little miss Quinn?
And then Frank Lynn’s behind Scarlett, dropping her with the Backstabber before going up top and connecting with the Five Star Frog Splash, all while Trace Demon laughs on the stage. Lynn goes for the cover while Reverend Shadow knocks Tyson Watts out of the ring to stop him from breaking up the count.

Christa Adina: The winners of this match… Frank Lynn and Reverend Shadow!
Trace Demon: Oops, my bad.
Trace Demon laughs as he heads backstage, leaving Frank Lynn and Reverend Shadow to celebrate their victory in the ring, though neither does much celebrating. For Shadow he’s too aloof and mysterious to make such a big show of things, while for Frank Lynn he’s clearly conflicted over picking up such a big victory under dubious circumstances.
Alecia Matthews: What the hell was Trace Demon out here for? Should he not be focusing more on his own match later tonight?
Daniel Knight: He was just letting us all know an important piece of information. It’s not his fault that Scarlett couldn’t focus on the match.
Alecia Matthews: Well with the announcement that Anna Ahriman and Hugh Jass will not be in action tonight we’ll be moving straight onto our co-main event, the tie breaking match in the B block as David Brennan and Ante Whitner go one on one.
Daniel Knight: Both Brennan and Whitner have been absolutely dominant in the tournament so far, but one of them has to fall.
David Brennan and Ante Whitner square up to each other to start the match off, showing some surprising sportsmanship as they shake hands before the bell rings. The moment it rings however and all bets are off as both men go right at each other in an explosion of right and left hands, the pair brawling around the ring. Brennan gets the better of the early exchange and begins to work Whitner over with strong power manoeuvres, showing off some impressive moves. Whitner won’t stay down though and fights back, first connecting with a big flying elbow and then dropping Brennan with a Tiger Suplex for the near fall. Whitner begins working the arm over, weakening it for Bloody Yonkers, and it’s effective, Brennan struggling to fight back as every time he does Whitner connects with something to that right arm that stops him dead in his tracks. Whitner tries to finish him off by locking in Bloody Yonkers but Brennan slips free before he can and drills both boots into his chest, slamming all of his weight down and damn near caving in the chest of the Bloodied Eagle. Brennan tries to lock in the County Lockup but his arm’s not at full strength, giving Whitner the chance to break the hold. Whitner scrambles to his feet and goes for a roundhouse kick but Brennan ducks underneath it, boots him in the gut and connects with a one armed Charles River Plunge!

Whitner kicks out!
Brennan knows what has to be done. Only one way to kill a warrior. He drags Ante back up and, fighting hard with his damaged arm, hits a second Charles River Plunge and gets ALL OF IT! He stacks up Ante high on his neck and shoulders.

Christa Adina: Your winner, and advancing to the final of the 2017 Supreme Gauntlet… David Brennan!
Alecia Matthews: A huge win for David Brennan who is now just one match away from becoming the new WFWF World Heavyweight Champion!
Daniel Knight: I don’t care whether you’re Trace Demon or Joe Bishop, you’ve got to be feeling the heat now you know you’ll be facing that man.
Alecia Matthews: There's no one who can deny Brennan's dominance over the last 6 months, and after putting down Whitner there to take group B I think Phillip Schneider would do well to remember his name.
Darkness engulfs the arena as 'Stay Away' hits the loudspeakers. On the titantron clips of Bishop's two spells in the WFWF are interjected by clips of the Englishman competing around the world, with competitors much less familiar to the American audience. At “Monkey See, Monkey Do” a flash of pyro blasts out of the stage and from behind the curtain comes Joe Bishop, to a mixed reception from the WFWF fans. He’s usually not the guy they cheer for, but against Trace Demon? Come on. The Englishman raises his right arm, with his hand forming a fist, as he takes a few seconds to take in the crowd.
Christa Adina: The following contest is scheduled for one fall and is your main event of the evening! Introducing first, from Wimbledon, England, weighing 205lbs, Joe Bishoooop!
Then, once the atmosphere dies down, Bishop begins to march down the ramp, concealing his emotions from the audience and looking entirely focused on his upcoming match. He climbs up the ring steps, and enters the ring through the second and third rope. Bishop is left completely still in the middle of the ring - with his arms folded as the music fades and the lights return – preparing himself for the arrival of his oldest adversary.
As the opening chords of “Seizure of Power” hits the speakers the lights across the arena shut off one by one. They are replaced by six crimson spotlights, each one turning on a different part of the arena in sequence. One by one each of the spotlights move to the tip of the stage, combining and showing the first glimpse of Trace Demon, down on one knee with his back to the crowd and a hoodie over his head. As the song builds to a fever pitch he suddenly rises, spins around and in one simultaneous motion pulls his hood down and throws his other hand up like a gun, mouthing “Boom” as pyrotechnics go off all around him. As the pyrotechnics come to a stop the lights in the arena turn on, showing a full look at Trace Demon.
Christa Adina: And his opponent, from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, weighing 230lbs, he is The King of Demons, Traaaaace Demon!
Trace stands on the ramp and takes a look around at the crowd, completely unfazed by the reaction he is getting. He seems to be in his own little world as he makes his way down the ramp, completely ignoring the fans on either side of him as they attempt to touch the King of Demons, instead focused solely on the ring and the whatever goal he has in mind for tonight. As he reaches the bottom of the ramp he removes his hoody and throws it to the ground before settling himself just outside the ring. In a single flawless motion he leaps up onto the apron and then enters the ring between the top and middle rope. He ascends the nearest turnbuckle, pointing to the fans and smirking as they return the abuse, and then leaps back down, settling in the centre of the ring.
Joe Bishop stands in the ring, unmoved since the beginning of Trace’s entrance, staring him down with an intensity and yet a calmness emanates from him. Trace hasn’t done so much as look at Bishop until now and he acts as though he didn’t know he was there. Trace laughs and Bishop continues to stare right back at him. The ref calls for the bell and they begin by circling the ring. Bishop reaches out a hand for a knuckle lock and Trace takes the right one before delivering a stiff kick to the right thigh of Bishop. The knuckle lock is broken. This time Trace calls for the lock up and goes for the kick again only this time Bishop slides back on his toes out of the line of fire and forces Trace under their arms, wrapping Trace’s own arm around his throat. Bishop now throws Trace backwards over his hip and rides him down into an umaplata/neck tie submission combination. Trace manages to thrust himself backwards toward the ropes and gets a foot there to cause the break.
This technical back and forth continues for a number of minutes with Trace seemingly starting to get annoyed with Bishop’s ability to outmanoeuvre him at every turn. Trace turns those tables though by fighting out of a reverse wrist lock and simply paintbrushing Bishop with a huge slap across the face. Bishop is startled by it and doesn’t have time to react as an open palm strike shotei connects with his nose. Trace begins to take over the match with his superior strength and striking ability and he makes a point of keeping space between he and Bishop, not allowing the opportunity for any catch wrestling. Trace continues to take it to Bishop with lariats in the corner before Bishop slumps and Trace follows up with a running busaiku knee that knocks Bishop for a loop. Trace makes a cover:

Kick out! Trace lifts Bishop upright and hoists him onto his shoulders before running to the corner and a hitting a Death Valley Driver right into the corner of the ring and turnbuckles. He pulls Bishop to the centre and covers him again.

…Bishop kicks out and in doing so manages to set Trace up into a triangle sleeper!
Trace fights to his feet with his head still down on the floor and begins to heave Bishop up off the mat, looking for a powerbomb of sorts but Bishop is quick to react and he transitions his weight to Trace’s left arm, using the weight distribution to drag Trace back to the ground and into a cross arm breaker! The crowd is going nuts as it seems Trace is stuck in the centre of the ring with no where to go. Trace manages to get his feet underneath him again though and this time has the freedom to start stomping onto Bishop’s head and face forcing Bishop to release his grip and cover up. Again Trace begins to take control using his strikes but a number of forearms seems if anything to wake Bishop up and he returns in kind. The two throw a series of clubbing forearms centre ring with the crowd in attendance firmly behind Joe during the exchange. Eventually Bishops throws a wild swinging right and Trace ducks. Joe spins around until his back is to Trace and Trace grabs Bishop’s arms for a dragon suplex. Bishop slides his arms free though but now Trace straightjackets the arms and looks for a german. Bishop trows his head back and the top of his skull catches Trace just below the eye loosening his grip just enough for Bishop to jump up and move into an okana roll, only instead of pinning his opponent he transitions into another arm bar! The crowd are once again willing on Trace Demon to submit but he refuses. Bishop manages to move though into Mactabilis Factum (Anaconda Vice) and the referee keeps checking on the condition of The King of Demons.
Trace fights, roaring in pain until he manages to grab onto the bottom rope, just saving himself from the jaws of defeat once again. As Bishop releases the hold on a count of 4 Trace takes the opportunity to roll out of the ring. Bishop reaches through the middle of the ropes for Trace but is hit with a lifting uppercut for his troubles that leaves him hung out to dry with the 2nd rope under his armpits. Trace jumps up and hits another european for good measure and then takes to the apron, stepping back to the ring post and pulling down his knee pad. He slaps his knee before running at Bishop and hitting another busaiku knee lift that echoes around the arena. He then pulls bishop out of the ring over the 2nd rope and alongside him on the apron before lifting Bishop up with a powerbomb! Bishop grabs onto the top rope and tries to free himself from Trace’s grip and the two reach a short stalemate before Bishop releases the rope, swings himself out away from the ring and twists flipping Trace off of the apron with a swinging ‘rana!
Both men hit the outside hard and are gasping for breath as the referee begins his 20 count. Bishop is first up at 16 and rolls into the ring only to roll back out, restarting the count. He delivers some clubs to the back of Trace’s torso and neck before stepping over him and hooking a gutwrench. He lifts Trace’s feet off the ground and drives him head first into the thin protective ringside mats with a sit-out piledriver! The crowd loses their mind as they can sense victory is within Bishop’s grasp. He tries to get Trace back into the ring but Trace is all over the place, falling back to the ground anytime Bishop pulls him up. It takes until the count of 18 before Bishop realises he has to break the count again so he rolls back in and out once more, not happy to take this on a count on. Again he tries to pull the dead weight of Trace Demon upright and still he struggles but eventually gets him under the bottom rope and into the ring. Bishop realises he’s lost a lot of time though and instead of going for a pin straight away climbs the turnbuckle. He stands on the top rope and gauges the distance between him and his prone opponent before leaping into the air and hitting Decido Spiritus (450 Splash).
Trace gets his knees up! Trace rolls Bishop into a crucifix pin.

… Bishop kicks out!
The two men lie on the mat but it’s Bishop who stirs first, willing Trace up to his feet once again. The two begin to go back and forth with forearms once more, the crowd eating it up. Trace starts to push his former protege back with his strikes but Bishop rallies with a spinning back elbow that sends spit flying. He goes for another but Trace connects with a head butt to the chin that drops Bishop. Trace shakes out his head to clear it and then pulls Bishop up. He signals for the end and pulls Bishop’s arm around his own neck before lifting him up onto his shoulders, facing the rafters. Trace Demon attempts to put Bishop down for good with the Hell Fire Overdose (Burning Hammer). He screams, looking directly down the hard cam, but Bishop squirms free, pulling Trace with him to the mat and locks him in Mactabilis Factum (Anaconda Vice) one more time centre ring! The crowd are chanting for Trace to tap and he strains, trying to pull himself to yet another rope break but as he gets close Bishop rolls both men back to the middle of the ring and all hope is lost.
Trace Demon is forced to tap out! The crowd loses their collective sh*t and Bishop releases the hold falling back onto the mat in exhaustion and relief.
Christa Adina: Here is your winner and Block A finalist, Joe Bishoooooop!
Trace Demon rolls out of the ring and falls to the ground and Joe Bishop simply lies there, his hands on his head in seeming disbelief that this time, after all of his hard work since their last encounter, he has felled the man who has always been his superior. He finally rises to his feet and the referee grabs his hand and holds it aloft to the cheers of the crowd.
Alecia Matthews: He’s done it! Joe Bishop has conquered the King of Demons!
Daniel Knight: I can’t believe what I’m seeing. How?
Alecia Matthews: And with Trace out of the running, you know what this means? Whoever wins the finals of the Supreme Gauntlet 17! will be a first time champion! This is incredible!
Joe Bishop stands on the 2nd rope looking out across the fans paying their respect to a man who has never been a traditional favourite. Trace Demon stands in the centre of the ramp, staring at Bishop, his face unreadable. Bishop drops down from the turnbuckle and faces Trace, the two men staring each other down.
Trace Demon: You’re my legacy Bishop! Don’t you forget it!
Bishop shakes his head, then looks beyond Trace to the stage. Trace sees the eyeline and turns… right as Scarlett Quinn strikes, tackling Trace Demon to the ground! A horde of officials and security rush to intervene before the two can do any real damage to each other but then all eyes turn to the top of the stage once again as another figure emerges and begins marching towards the ring, the WFWF International Champion David Brennan!
Alecia Matthews: We’ve already got one brawl going on, are we about to get another?
David Brennan reaches the throng of officials trying to separate the warring Demon and Quinn and decides f**k it and just pushes a referee out of his way. The referee goes flying onto his ass and Brennan just casually walks past him, climbing into the ring where Joe Bishop is waiting. The two men meet in the centre of the ring, staring each other down, the two finalists of the 2017 Supreme Gauntlet. The tension is incredible, only amplified by the continued brawl at ringside which still has not been calmed despite twenty plus officials trying to do so. If tonight has proven anything it’s that at the finals of the Supreme Gauntlet…
There’s going to be war.
