Just read that Tommy Hanson died from "catastrophic organ failure". Just awful.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners have engaged in talks about Brett Gardner. Sherman also notes that the Mariners are willing to listen to offers for SP James Paxton.

I actually really like the Hicks deal. Murphy was a great backup C but he clearly should be a starter and he wasn't going to be that with the Yankees because of Brian McCann and even Gary Sanchez.
At the very worst, Hicks replaces Chris Young's role on the roster as the lefty masher outfielder (.307/.375/.495) except he's younger, faster, has a MUCH better arm, and can actually play CF.
Yankees have collected a bunch of young talent that really didn't stick with their previous teams (Wilson, Gregorious, Eovaldi, Ackley) and it's worked out well for them so far.
As for Gardner, I've definitely soured on him a little bit. 2nd straight season where his offense disappeared during the 2nd half, he's 32 years-old and has 3 more years left on his deal, he has a weak arm, and he doesn't use his biggest asset: his speed. He should legitimately be a 30+ SB guy but he just isn't.
I love Gardner, I would be really sad to see him go because he's been a Yankee for a long time and has played very, very well...but if they could get a young, cost-controlled SP for him? You have to do it.

Braves got a good deal for Simmons, amazing defensive SS but not a great hitter. Newcomb is gonna be a beast

Hoping for something positive so the Nationals don't disappoint me again.

Newcomb is gonna be a beast Yeah, Simmons is essentially a one dimensional player; albeit, he's amazing at that one dimension. But he doesn't hit, walk, or steal bases and that makes him expendable, especially for Newcomb.

I'm not sad about trading Simmons. I like him but his offense has regressed, and he is a one trick pony. Fun to watch in the field, but a great defensive shortstop is a luxury to me, like a closer for when your team is better. Braves have been and are rebuilding for 2017 and the new stadium. I'm guessing Freeman is gone by the trade deadline.

Ellis is a back end guy, but a guy that is great to have in your system. They'll flip Aybar too

Hoping for something positive so the Nationals don't disappoint me again. They need to find a way to get Max Scherzer-money for Stephen Strasburg next year

Red Sox acquire Craig Kimbrel and "several other MLB'ers" from Padres. Could be Tyson Ross as well.
EDIT: It's just for Kimbrel:
The #Padres have acquired OF Margot, INFs Guerra and Asuaje and LHP Allen from Red Sox in exchange for Kimbrel

Kimbrels awesome but thats a ton for a closer.
Top 50 prospect, top 100 guy (maybe) and 2 others for a 70 inning pitcher?
eh?

Kind of surprised that three guys took qualifying offers, since no one had before.

Kind of surprised that three guys took qualifying offers, since no one had before. The QOs keep going up each year and most of the players who receive them are not even worth that amount.

I'm really happy with the Phillies' trade for Hellickson. Perfect low-risk move. At worst, he can be a solid innings-eater for us. At best, he could get back to his '11-'12 form, and be a nice candidate to flip at the deadline.
I'd also be stoked if they actually did end up working out a deal with Miami for Ozuna, providing the price the isn't steep.
So far, so good with the new regime.
