that's pretty dope man, I like the way you used a bunch of different methods in one. we've been doing a lot of charcoal drawings in this drawing class I'm taking and its so much fun. I never expected to actually get into it because I mostly do digital stuff but I enjoy it a lot.
but anyway, really dig it. I like how you were able to keep to one tone. Nothing looks out of place. Normally if I'm drawing animals or humans I do it where they aren't facing forward but more on an angle. I feel like head on drawings are harder to pull off but you did a nice job with it.

I took college art class for a semester but hated it because of how strict it was, im mildly allergic to the charcoal used for drawing, makes me itch..however i do like using it. when I draw or paint I'm incredibly busy and like a madman, this took me about 45 mins to complete lmao. I have not painted or drawn very many animals at all, however, I have been doing more and more lately, watercolors allow me to get the colors how I like them. For an example with the shading I used black and blue and just watered it really down. being able to push the water around on the paper helps get shapes in that I wanted. the white charcoal pencil is something i have been using lately to help with highlights. it adds an extra oomph.

I took a 2D design class my first semester of college and the guy was a prick. He was only interested in the logic and science of art, not interpretation or personal techniques. He went to Yale for it so he acted like his crap didn't stink. charcoal doesn't seem to bother me too much, aside the mess. I've never been much interested in paint but its cool you can incorporate it into your drawings. Animals are a bitch to draw because its hard pulling off realistic fur. You do a good job at it but when I try I usually end up having to make it more cartoonish. Do you like sit down and really map out where you want your light source to come from or do you just add the white charcoal randomly to give it the effect of lights and highlights. I usually just add it in to certain spots where people would expect light to be. Like eyes for example are something I can't draw without adding highlights to them. They just don't look good without them imo. I don't overthink where my light source is coming from though unless its part of an assignment.

Everything I do is random, I have little to no planning whenever I draw. So highlights are just random and always the last thing I do. I think my style of art is a mix between reality and cartoon...I never feel like my art looks real lmao My teacher wasn't a prick, just wanted us to incorporate things into our art, or wanted us to change things etc etc...just being a teacher I suppose.

Here is an example of my art being really busy and sporadic.

yeah, whatever your style is man. I feel like as long as you know rules and methods exist its okay to break them or not follow them to a T.

I wish I had your motivation when it comes to drawing. I'll start one, put it away, six months later I'll draw a couple of lines then away it goes for another six months.
The bottom pic posted above is incredible. Even the WIP pics without the colour look great.
