I thought this could be a good topic to learn new things about wrestlers that you never knew before.
So I came up with a question for a thread, where I'd ask who used the Tombstone Piledriver (belly to belly) before the Undertaker popularised it and used it as his finisher. Key word being popularised. Because these moves can be performed by many before you ever saw it, but for some reason go unnoticed.
I have seen/heard a few wrestlers use the Tombstone either before or at the same time Taker was doing it, and can only think of Sting, Fit Finlay and Owen Hart (who later modified it by sitting down, named the "Hart Driver"). I know there's more guys though.
So for this thread, I'd like to start off by asking this question for the Tombstone/Belly to Belly Piledriver, but by all means, please ask your own questions about specific moves.

Owen used the Tombstone Piledriver I believe as a sort of tribute to Dynamite Kid, funnily enough, both were very popular in Japan, especially with Owen being the first Gaijin to win the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title.
Dynamite was one of those guys who had a lot of creative wrestling moves. The innovator of the superplex, great at snap suplexes & many more bits and pieces of wrestling. IMO without Dynamite Kid we probably wouldn't have a decent amount of wrestlers who are 6 Foot or less not nearly as successful today.
Also to add Jake Roberts whom created the DDT by accident, but has become very much an overused & abused move today.
Can't think of anyone else right now, but I like what you're on about with commonplace moves that were once used sparingly by certain wrestlers.

HBK was using the super kick for years before it became his finisher.
I remember it being called the "Crescent Kick" for some reason.

Ric Flair and Harley Race both used a normal suplex for their finishers back in the late 70s, early 80s.
Dino Bravo used a side suplex slam for his finisher. And moves like a side suplex and a normal suplex are an every move occurrence now for a wrestling match.

Wasn't Owen's piledriver always a normal one? Up until Taker I always remember piledrivers being delivered as sitting down (ala Mr Wonderful)

HBK was using the super kick for years before it became his finisher. I remember it being called the "Crescent Kick" for some reason. Similar to Edge using the spear more as a signature move before it became his main finisher. Although he did use it occasionally as an actual match-ending move, it wasn't his finisher until about 2004. The DDT's one I've always been interested in finding out if it was used before Jake, and it's a shame so many use it as a regular move that everybody can kick out of.

These are some of my favorite wrestling moves and the first wrestler I saw use them although not necessarily as a finisher
Tiger Suplex-Ultimo Dragon
Tiger Driver-Ahmed Johnson (Pearl River Plunge)
Tiger Bomb-Jushin Liger
Brainbuster-Koko B Ware (Ghostbuster)
Figure Four Leglock-Ric Flair
T-Bone Suplex-Taz
Reverse DDT-Skinner (Gator Breaker)

Drunk Kurt Angle invented every move and if you use that move then you are stealing from him.

I know for a fact Andre used the tombstone and the pedigree back in his afro days.
There's video of it on YouTube.
