6:30 PM
I'm on my way to the gym for my afternoon training session. It will be my first time in the gym with my trainer, Sean, after he was in a horrible car crash, since he was released from the hospital. He wants to work with his other protege, Scott, first before our scheduled workout. I immediately spot Sean outside the ring, standing with the help of a cane, coaching Scott who's in the ring having a practice match with another trainee.
"Is that an arm triangle choke?" I ask Sean as I approach the ring.
"Sure is," Sean says with a smile.
I can tell they've been going at it for a while because both guys in the ring are drenched in sweat, breathing hard and look worn out. I watch from the apron as the exhibition match continued.
"Nice hammerfist," I say watching the match, surprised to see Scott executing these moves.
"I was studying jiu-jitsu while I was laid up in the hospital," he tells me arms crossed, smiling. "I found some submissions that I could you could utilize as well."
"I think it's too close to my match to start adding to my repertoire," I tell him, shaking my head, still watching the action inside. "So that's what you worked on with Scott today?"
"Yeah, we've been at it since early this morning," he says, eyes still glued to the ring as the match ends.
"Well I gotta say, that jiu-jitsu training looked like it took Scott to a whole other level," I tell Sean, who is now beaming with a proud smile, as Scott approaches.
"Another level, huh champ?" Scott asks smiling leaning over the top rope. "So does that put me on yours?" He asks somewhat cocky.
I laugh as I respond, "Easy rookie, you've still got a lot to learn."
"Oh really," he genuinely looks shocked, "Why don't you climb in the ring and teach me then?" He says as he holds the ropes open for me to enter.
I've never known Scott to act this cocky, not sure if it's the little bit he learned today. Or maybe his cockiness has been building up slowly and with everything going on with Sean, I just never noticed..
"Another time rookie," I tell him, breaking the short awkward silence. I slide into the ring from under the bottom rope as I tell him, "I've got to get ready for my next match."
He exits the ring as I start running the ropes, loosening up. I've got one thing on my mind, getting a National Championship Title Shot.
At The Local Library
There's nothing I find more enjoyable than the serenity of the local library.
Finding a book you can get lost in is an indescribable joy for me. Great literature is so often overlooked, I wonder if a guy like Grayson Cain ever looked inside a book not containing pop up pictures. I doubt Dr. Manson has ever touched a book that doesn't include women getting "tag teamed". It's sad knowing we live in a world where knowledge is so close and so easy to achieve to those who want it, yet very few people strive for it. What will it take for our society to wake up or if our society will ever wake up? The news is too infatuated with who's dating who instead of housing the homeless, feeding the starving and protecting the children that need protection. Calm down Shapiro, there I go again putting the weight of the world upon my shoulders. I just wish there was more I could do besides volunteer here and there.
I do what I can because I believe that if you want to change the world, then you better put forth the effort yourself. Even though Joey Raid, Lucas Crowe, Phoenix Nitro and I all share numerous similarities including:;being bullied, we all grew up protecting ourselves, we all struggled through adolescence, all of us are products of our environments and we're all survivors; I doubt they strive to make a change as I have. Which brings me to my scheduled Battle Royal at Dead Bodies Are Buried Under the Sakura. Aside from the aforementioned superstars my opponents also include Ishimura who is proven in Japan and is a serious threat, Joe Magnet is hungry and will want to make a statement and Dr. Manson who I consider is the wildcard. The winner will be named the Number 1 Contender for the WFWF National Championship.
The WFWF National Championship has been within my grasps before yet everytime I seem to come up short. At Dead Bodies Are Buried Under The Sakura in the Tokyo Dome I will not be coming up short. Not this time. In fact, when it's all said and done I'll be one step closer to becoming the National Champion.
