Never had a case of poison ivy in my life. Rule of thumb for doing yard work, always wear gloves. It would obviously protect your hands. Also, take a shower after performing the work. The sooner you have everything off of your body, the better.

Do your best to not only stay cool and try not to have a lot of skin exposed. I know it is hard to do but it would be of some benefit to you.
