It just makes collecting very stressful when it should be fun. Every time I order a figure especially if its someone with a complicated design on their attire such as sin cara, ryback, I'm stressed out worrying about paint apps. I'm a moc collector, but now my main concern is decent paint apps over condition of box. The figures lately don't seem fresh when you get them.plus I think the paint app problem Iis mostly with elites I don't think I've seen a bad basic.

i preordered Earthquake since I don't really have anything else on the want list till Tito hits shelves. Quake has a big smudge in the middle of the yellow paint on his front, so now i HAVE to hunt him down at retail. Totally defeats the purpose of preordering.

Let me preface by saying that this thread is in no way meant to be negative in any way, especially towards Mattel's incredible design team. I've been ridiculious enthused with pretty much everything that design team has brought to life over the last 5 years, just amazing work. My lone issue with this line has to do with things that take place after the figures's leave the hands of these guys. Quality control! I'm going to go out on a limb and to some of you this might be a stretch, but i feel like paint apps across the toy market are at an all time low. I mean it takes me tracking down 7-8 of the same figure to find one with nice presentable paint apps at times. This is not fair at the current price points imo. For some reason this has actually gotten worse as the line has went on, the 2010-11 figures were MUCH better painted. Is this a problem overseas right now? I see it when i look at other toy brands too, there has to be a reason for it. A few years ago this wasn't an issue and for all of my disappoint with some of Jakks work, their figures rarely had poor paint apps. I'm not paint aficionado, could it be the dull matte finish some of these toys have. My other issue is the plastic used sometimes has various defects, this is also a more recent trend. The DM Hogan has some ugly warping on the legs a lot of the time, like it was recycled or something. Swirls in the plastic. Same with a lot of black plastic like the Shield's legs and pants. I realize not all of you have even noticed how bad this problem can be, but i have a really good eye and it drives me crazy. I would love some constructive information on the current state of what's going on with these things overseas where they're painted. Is it too expensive to get better paint work done possibly? Is this all a matter of costs? Omg I'm so glad someone made a thread on this because am so tired of going through 5-10 figures just to find one with decent looking paint and sometimes there's only one and that one looks horrible. Sometimes I have to pass on a figure I really want because it's horribly painted. I think that the last few Ultimate Warriors have it the worst by far with the face paint all over the place. Almost seems like the employees who are actually hands on with this are just lazy and careless. A collectable easily becomes a poor quality toy. Hope this sparks enough attention for them to notice and fix this issue. So let me tag em MattelDesignTeam

I have no problem calling up mattel now and getting replacements for loose or really badly smudged or painted figures. I'm not trying to be picky about every little mistake but I expect a certain quality for a 25 to 30 dollar figure.
