Let me preface by saying that this thread is in no way meant to be negative in any way, especially towards Mattel's incredible design team. I've been ridiculious enthused with pretty much everything that design team has brought to life over the last 5 years, just amazing work.
My lone issue with this line has to do with things that take place after the figures's leave the hands of these guys. Quality control! I'm going to go out on a limb and to some of you this might be a stretch, but i feel like paint apps across the toy market are at an all time low. I mean it takes me tracking down 7-8 of the same figure to find one with nice presentable paint apps at times. This is not fair at the current price points imo.
For some reason this has actually gotten worse as the line has went on, the 2010-11 figures were MUCH better painted. Is this a problem overseas right now? I see it when i look at other toy brands too, there has to be a reason for it. A few years ago this wasn't an issue and for all of my disappoint with some of Jakks work, their figures rarely had poor paint apps. I'm not paint aficionado, could it be the dull matte finish some of these toys have.
My other issue is the plastic used sometimes has various defects, this is also a more recent trend. The DM Hogan has some ugly warping on the legs a lot of the time, like it was recycled or something. Swirls in the plastic. Same with a lot of black plastic like the Shield's legs and pants.
I realize not all of you have even noticed how bad this problem can be, but i have a really good eye and it drives me crazy. I would love some constructive information on the current state of what's going on with these things overseas where they're painted. Is it too expensive to get better paint work done possibly? Is this all a matter of costs?

The paint on the if belt with Razor is awful I don't know if that was an error or not? I thought it was cost cutting not to paint the whole belt, which is crazy because that Razor could have been a FB without the Belt.

I've noticed a lot screwed up Big E heads, sometimes one half will be sleek and shiny and the other rough as sandpaper, also his likeness can vary from figure to figure. Thankfully, he's not too popular so I can discriminate between several of them in store.
Also, all the broken up complicated paint apps that are smeared, incomplete, or just don't line up right at all on Goldust for example, or my X-Pac that is missing parts of the white outline on the DX thigh pattern, or my handful of Y2Js with "skidmarks" all over his back. There's more good than bad though with these figures.

Paint apps have been awful. The paint is smudged, paint is missing, it looks sloppy. And the figures have random marks on them. I get some figures that don't even have any black on them, but there are black marks on the figure. Or like a weird white crusty film. I'm sure these things are toxic.
I have to stand in the store and inspect the figures if there are multiples and pick which one is the least screwed up, because there is never one that is perfect and that I am happy with.

After a long time of lurking, seems like No matter how many of these threads pop up, it doesn't seem like they'll acknowledge or improve on this. Sucks when there's certain areas of the figure you can't see, then open it to look at the design is all ed up. Ruins that high lol To end this on a positive note, their figures are looking better and better (scans, details, roster ect.)

I agree with you 100 percent..i must have looked at 30 or so razor ramones until I found one with decent [not perfect] paint on his laces...the problem continues to get worse while the prices keep increasing ...very unfair..the quality control has def. limited the amount of figures i pre order...I mean really I can find something wrong with every figure I open..its sad really.

If I see a figure with so much as a weird spot on the face I simply do not buy it. Someone probably will, but I like to think I'm sending a message to Mattel!
By the way, does anyone else collect the new TMNT line? If you want to talk about cutting corners, most of their figures aren't even painted on the back, so it could always be worse.

Paint apps have been getting very hit-and-miss... it's even worse when you're a MOC collector - just when you've found one with a nice paint-job, the card or boxed will be dented(!). I often go through 4 or 5 (or more) of the same figure, picking out the best one.

I'm sick of figures with their feet on backwards, my Heath Slater has 2 left feet! I can't even fix that.
It is getting worse recently, seeing lots of figures with blobs and smears of paint on other parts of the body.
It's especially bad that the QC is going down and the prices are going up!

Last year, before i had a WFigs account, I made an order from RSC. Full set of E27. The E27 Undertaker came with a broken off arm and a piece rattling around inside him

I saw that crust on 4 Basic 48 hogans

You may need to write your post in Chinese in order for anything to be done about it.
Due to China's recent rise of wealth (it's still not great over there in non-cities), it is getting harder for them to keep the costs low overseas. I can only imagine what kind of things they do to cut costs over there when it comes to production/toys.

That's horrible, especially with the price we pay. Thankfully, I've never really had any major issues with a figure. Loose joints here and there but that's it.

Here's the sad part. Imagine how manyvmore dollars the price would have to climb to get good paint apps. I hate it but it's true. I've had to settle on several of the short packs because it wasn't possible to compare paint when there were no duplicates.

There has to be a reason why the paint apps on them were significantly better during the early years, something changed.

I genuinly cannot remember the last time i replied to a post, but this is a problem thats going to end up stopping me collecting, so...
the paint apps have been unforgivable. Razors i.c title was just disgusting when compared to the (much cheaper) legends i.c title.
for some strange reason people put up "thank you bill, please use me as your andrex" posts and bill replys with total glee, but why do you bury you head when it comes to constructive critisism? Bill, i love these figures, and i understand you have budgets - BUT IN THIS DAY AND AGE, SO DO WE!!!!!
Its high time you stopped running away from this problem, and made an attempt to answer your customers. We know you read these threads and there has been many issues with recent quality. For me personally, i live in the uk, so obtaining a wm31 kane has been difficult, obtaining one without a battledamaged factory repaired (yes bill, we seen it) upper right pec has been impossible.
Theres a reason that jakks lost the contract, and its down to the figure fan base. We are the customers, and yet you ignore us when theres something you want to avoid.
These figures have almost doubled in price in the uk, £12.99 - £19.99 so the quality loss in belts/paint and accessories is totally unacceptable. You have been given the oppertunity to give the fans the classic tag belts, lod, bushwhackers, earthquake, edge and christian, and years on there is still no mention of them??? Yet we continue to get rubbish like mark henry with half a set of steel steps or reigns with a knee high barricade!? Mattel is starting to go down the jakks road, they are getting lazy, and apparently deaf.
Bill, the customer is always right, and we want your input here.
Believe that!

I am very lucky everything I have bought online other than a bent B46 lawler and bent Mysterio basic from Amazon have have been perfect for me. Not kidding. The best paint jobs I have received have been from online basically playing russian roulette as crazy as that sounds. They are more reliable than retail for me as well and I get better deals.
