With the publicity NXT has, will we ever see a wrestler have one gimmick in NXT but a totally different one in WWE?
My thinking is that the gimmick you see from NXT is the same gimmick that will make its way to the main roster. However, is there even a remote possibility that some wrestlers will debut with brand new characters?
What I mean is this: When Adam Rose debuted in WWE, people "knew" him from his NXT time. Was there any chance he was going to debut as Leo Kruger or someone else? Probably not because of the time invested in cultivating the character.
I don't understand why though. I mean, before, you had guys like Tony Atlas and Ron Simmons, well known wrestlers, debuting on the WWE's main stage as Saba Simba and Farrooq Assad respectively. Although I guess the argument is that the WWE's audience didn't know them, like it technically does with NXT wrestlers. Even Nick Dinsmore in OVW wrestled as Nick Dinsmore before debuting as Eugene. I guess it's basically that NXT serves as a focus group of sorts to see what could get over and what could not.

NXT is used to train the wrestlers to be those characters, so not likely.

After watching NXT since May of 2013, I've seen the WWE doing a lot of experiments with the talents on NXT. I have a feeling Ray Leppan wasn't going to debut on the main roster as Leo Kruger. When they re-branded him as Adam Rose, it took me a bit to fully digest the character. He is more over as Rose than with Kruger. There is a disconnect with how the talents are seen on NXT than their main roster counterparts. I wish some of these guys who came from NXT would be a bigger deal (Big E comes to mind) and maybe the depth in the roster can be deeper rather than shallow.
The WWE can't afford to shun their NXT guys when they call them up.

Well, Big E's 5-Count thing was put to a halt and who knows what this gimmick is that Paige currently has. All I know is, it's not the gimmick she had in NXT. Tyson Kidd has been doing a fantastic job in NXT and when we see him on RAW he is put into a role where he is ignoring his wife outside the ring and listening to music? That's not the arrogant and egotistical Tyson that I see on NXT..

I believe WWE wants NXT to be where the gimmick is fine tuned. Once they get it down their odds of getting called up are greater. I'm sure there will come a time where someone gets tweaked but I doubt you'll ever see a huge drastic change.

I just hope WWE doesn't repackage Neville. Pac just does Pac. The man who gravity forgot suits him so well that he doesn't need a new gimmick. Tyler Breeze is another gimmick I hope doesn't get washed down the drain. His entrance alone stands out more than half of the entrances on the main roster. He could be the new Shawn Michaels. Breeze's "pretty boy" gimmick falls very close to Shawn's "sexy boy" gimmick. That's in a good way, too.

I allllllmost want the NXT guys to stay on NXT until Trips takes over WWE fully. Because that's the only way we can guarentee they won't be crippled by the writers of the main show.

Adam Rose was "Adam Rose" on NXT for like one taping before he got called up to WWE. I'm guessin that character was developed for TV and then they changed him at NXT just to test the reaction before they called him up.
But, for the most part, what they are doing at NXT is developing characters so that they can come up to the main roster with a purpose. The other notable exceptions, though, would be The Shield dudes.
Although, I'm guessing Sami Zayn's character won't be "charming guy who acts like a normal person" on TV because apparently if you're a face on the main roster, you have to be a total bunghole.

That's exactly what I was coming in here to say, I think each one of their characters had somewhat of a change once they became the Shield. Ambrose was still wacky but the attitudes mostly changed. Other than that I can't think of any NXT guys who have changed their gimmicks too drastically when called up to the main roster.

When Rusev debuted on the main roster, they were doing some fine tuning as well. Rusev now and back when Sylvester Lefort was managing him is a drastic change. Adam Rose made his NXT TV debut at the January 30th, 2014 NXT taping's. The match aired the week after the Arrival special. Rose would have another match on NXT on the March 20th episode against Camacho, and another one on the April 10th episode where he defeated Danny Burch.

You're correct. Tyler Breeze is definitely Tyler Breeze. That would be idiotic if WWE named Breeze "the new Shawn Michaels," so I agree with you there. However, Shawn is a big influence to Tyler, and both have similarities.

Tyler Breeze is definitely Tyler Breeze, he doesn't have Shawn Michales anywhere in his name, so I agree with you there. However, Shawn is a big influence to Tyler, and both have similarities. Tyler Breeze is Shawn Michaels circa 1992, "The Model" Rick Martel, and Derek Zoolander all rolled into one.

Russia didn't become the focus between him and Lana till after he debuted on the main roster. When Rusev debuted on the main roster, he was still being called Alexander Rusev and later dropping the former and keeping the latter. Rusev went from this: To this: I understand that he changed his character while in NXT. I get that. I'm well aware. No need to post pics that I've already seen. But MOST of the changes that he has made were made before he ever debuted on the Main Roster. He was still aligned with Lana & switched to shorts before he got called up. Dropping his first name and carring a different flag are ARE NOT what I would consider a DRASTIC change. His character has been tweaked. And as I said in my original post, that is bound to happen. If he debuted as Alexander Rusev but now was wrestling as James Patterson from Minnesota, then you would be right. But all things considered he has only been slightly tweaked from the moment he debuted on RAW.
