There has been a lot of talk of the greatest QB of all time recently. Before the Super Bowl a lot had Peyton Manning as the G.O.A.T, but I think that has changed after his performance in this Super Bowl and his overall playoff record (I believe its 11-12, with him having the most playoff losses). Now in my opinion you play to win the game. You don't play for passing yard totals, or touchdown totals, you play to hoist the Lombardi Trophy. Now of course those stats should come into play when determining the greatest quarterback, but should be the largest nor sole factor in determining the best. For the best is probably Joe Montana. The guy is 4 of 4 in the super bowl, engineered game winning after game winning drive, has above average stats, and is probably the greatest clutch quarterback of all time. In a close, and I mean very close second, like .01% behind Joe is Tom Brady. A 6th round pick, then a third stringer NFL QB through circumstances got the starting job. A great story. His first three titles came with no name receivers (but being the die hard Pats fan) he had David Givens, Patten, Brown, and Kevin Faulk. Montana had Jerry Rice (who was named #1 football player ever by NFL Network), Taylor, Clark, Craig, plus an exceptional defense with Ronnie Lott leading the way. As soon as Brady did get a top weapon in Randy Moss, he puts up 50 touchdowns. Imagine if Brady had Moss his whole career? He would be at Dan Marino like numbers by now. Not only that but in the two super bowls he did lose, he did not choke, his defense did. He had his team up both times against the Giants, but then his defense failed to hold on. And not to make excuses but Brady played with severely injured ankle in the first super bowl against the Giants. For me if Brady wins another he is the GOAT. But till then... Montana. Hope to hear other people responses and picks.
