for being a custom (if it is) someone put a tremendous amount of work into it. That weight belt/whistle combo were never used anywhere else and the face looks pretty spot on for Slaughter too. And like others have said, no seam lines. These figures aren't like Jakks or Mattel figures where you can just pop off body parts and replace them with the ones you want.. They're solid and unless they're remolded, they'll never be solid again.. This looks like someone made a new production sample themselves... .......Or this is in fact legitimate..
Stubbornness is perseverance refined. So you have to watch what you say around stubborn people
idk, i tend to believe the seller, just look at what she's got? everything is ljn, piles of unused ljn accessories? try to find anything for the tigersharks line and she consistently has large lots of weapons? I collect alot, and love Indiana Jones, she's got the Short Round Hardcopy!!! I don't think there'd be a large market for that one, so why fake that one?
also, regarding the sgt slaughter, the only reference is the plaster mold, who says that's legit?

The naysayer that said "details, pay attention to details" should have listened to his own advice. For the most part he seems regarded as a laughing stock on this site.

to me, it looks like a custom.. just looks in too good condition to be a prototype from 30 years ago...
and, why would they make removable sunglasses on a series 1 figure, but then leave the sunglasses on a series 4 figure (koko b. ware)....the sunglasses are too small of an accessory that would easily get lost (yes, the canes, etc could get lost too, but this is even smaller)..
my vote is that this is definitely a custom, and should only get custom money for it.
I think if the glasses and hat were added it would put a lot of talk to rest as they probably wouldn't fit on the head and show it's a custom. If it's Jakks glasses they will pop off of the sides of the frame will push off to the side. It seems like it was a good attempt at the mold but it doesn't come so close with the right arm placement.
Im Looking at the width between the hand saluting and the head. The mold has a hand closer, like a real salute, the custom prototype has more of a , dare i say ...............'Nazi salute'
Dont mention the war!!!!, Ok, but for the sake of the discussion ;D
Also the other hand on the mold is higher than the belt line, more forward facing....The custom has a lower hand, pointing more down.
That is why, ladies and gentlemen, i wont bid.

Golden hulk, I didn't say slaughter never wore that kind of shirt!!! I said the known legitimate LJN unreleased slaughter mold that stom owns DOES NOT match this figure at all, again, pay attention to DETAILS!!!
Yeah, as the pics Ichiban posted reveal, the figure shown here does not match that figure mold we've all seen AT ALL, so I didn't think you could actually be thinking it was a figure that came from that mold. Both arms are positioned differently, the head looks different, and it's just clearly not even close.
I had mistakenly figured you thought it was something altogether different from that, because anyone with eyes to see and compare can tell this figure is not at all like that mold (which has also never been satisfactorily confirmed as legitimate as far as I'm concerned).
There are some fantastic artists capable of making these sorts of figures these days, especially since the tools required to do so are so readily available now and so much cheaper than they were not all that long ago. Anyone with a lot of skill and a little money can do these things at home.

Interesting... I've always believed that the mold stom has is a fake, It looks like a reverse "negative" mold that doesn't even line up (maybe he can clarify that ?).. When stom purchased that mold the seller was selling several different molds (claiming to be unreleased ljn figures and some released) I didn't believe that seller then and I still don't believe they are legit molds.. I think this slaughter here is a custom also.
OH No!! My warning level is at 50% for speaking the truth..... What will I ever do!!![/img]

I want Panther Piper (and the unseen black card LJNs, though my belief is that they never made it past the words-on-paper stage so that'll never happen)
I have to ask as I really don't know much about wrestling memorabilia - That is a huge sum to pay for one figure, especially one that most of you here (seasoned LJN collectors, no doubt) are almost positive is not real. So were the people bidding on this piece bidding for the sheer novelty of just HAVING IT, even if it is custom (maybe because it's one of a kind,) or do they actually believe it is a prototype? It seems to me that no one is likely to pay that ridiculous of a price knowing it's a custom but I have a hard time believing anyone would bid on it considering all the evidence that it's not original. Anyone who's willing to fork over that kind of money must know their stuff about LJNs, right? Just curious because I'm willing to bet that someone's going to be downright pissed when it arrives in the mail and they realize it's a fake...

Well, IMO people who believe it is real will bid accordingly. Chances are they have no idea of this forum's existence so no matter what is said here it doesn't change their opinion in any way.
Despite the reasons noted by users here and the unlikeliness of such a piece turning up after so long in such good condition, it's within the realm of worldly possibility whether we want to believe it or not. For all we know, that well-known figure mold which differs from this example could have been the final production piece mold (obviously), and the said-to-be resin prototype differs. After all, compare the prototype Tito Santana or Mean Gene to the releases and they're clearly different. If the prototypes were all done in resin, which is said to be the case for at least one stage, then this could stand to reason.
I personally don't buy the story but by playing devil's advocate which I tend to do, I can see how it COULD be possible. It's basically a he said/she said story. The seller says it's real based on whatever, we say it's fake based on whatever. Who can prove it either way with 100% certainty? Neither, really, though we naysayers could probably build a better case of why it's not real vs. whatever story the seller comes up with whether true or not. Without a clear method of proof, no one will believe it anyway and rightfully so. It's a shame, really.
But crazier things have happened; just recently the Thundercats "Mad Bubbler" prototype was uncovered. One would have figured that piece either was nowhere, destroyed, or found long ago. Before that happened, it was basically a 50/50 split on those who thought it existed or not.
The entire idea of a "Sgt Slaughter" prototype has been circulating since way before the days of the prevalence of the internet and this segment of the collecting populace. Back then the rumor was that the Hasbro 8" Slaughter was actually an unused prototype LJN sold to Hasbro for production. Never mind the absurdity of that, or the fact that the style used on the Slaughter figure does not match the style used on LJN Wrestling Superstars at all, that one still has traction as "fact" in that it's even on the LJN Wrestling Superstars wikipedia page. I have seen several "real, straight from a former LJN employee Sgt Slaughter prototypes" over the years. Some have been more convincing than others. Mind you, there's never been one shred of evidence that he was ever in the plans for series 1 of the LJN figures, but that has not stopped anyone from continuing to produce these figures. What is telling to me is that the prototypes people CAN verify and know exist have never popped up (alternate Tito, Blassie, etc), nor has any concrete information on figure we can verify were intended to be included in the final, cancelled LJN wave of figures (Bad News, Brother Love, etc). Now that this figure has sold for such a high dollar amount I figure it's only a matter of time before some of these are mysteriously "rediscovered".
