Great topic, I took a hiatus from collecting around CS 15 or 16 for a year or so and only sporadically picked up the odd guy here and there. So to me my Jakks collection still isn't complete as I am still filling in gaps.
I too stated due to the sheer variety of whom Jakks released that I wouldn't start again and for the most part I haven't (except for the occasional diva unreleased by Jakks) but I can still give the devil it's due and say Mattel have done an awesome job with the WWE line.

I hated jakks! I was a big hasbro collector and stopped when Jakks came along. I created around the boards for years and kept up w all the happenings on RSC. Always a huge wwe guy and wanted to collect but I just hated the fact that jakks were cartoony and out of scale. I've been down w mattel since day one though!

I think jakks started with enthusiasm anf good untention when they started the wwe line but i think at the end they didnt care less. At the time ra1 looked pretty good and the first legends were amazing at the time. Scale or lack of for me always ruined jakks figures though. I think mattel do so well with the figures they make, the scale and number of parts they are willing to make is excellent. Some of the torso choices from jakks were rediculous. Mattel has in my eyes just got better and better, i got the tensai fig today and the detail and sculpt on a "basic" figure is excellent. I hope mattel keep the wwe line for a long time to come. I agree on what some have said though the distrabution for somthing as popular as wrestling figures have always been is pretty shocking.

I was one of those people that said "I'm not starting a whole new collection". I did pretty good the first year, I didn't buy any Mattel figures or Jakks figures. One day I walked into Target and saw a couple of legend series 1,2 and 3 on clearance for 3.74 so I said what the heck let me buy a few, so I picked up bulldog, snuka,Roberts, and kamala. Ever since that day I've been collecting Mattel. I'm glad I jumped over to Mattel cause they make some of the best figures ever. So true.....I was gonna collect, but then saw that the Legends figures were 14.99 and decided against it and just looked for awhile. Prices on Legends, EG, and DM really bottomed out in August of 2011 and I ended up getting a bunch of Legends, DM, and EG for dirt cheap. I only planned on buying a few at the beginning but ended up with a bunch more because of the deals I got. Then they put flashbacks in the line and had some cool exclusives on RSC and Matty and Im still collecting! Ive been very pleased by the selection in the last year or so, lots of good ones!

Was on the fence about Mattel, didnt want to start all over but as soon as I got basic 1 Cena I was hooked. I look at my jakks figures now and just shake my head.

I was not a fan at all of Mattel. Had Jakks not Keeled over and died I would still be buying Jakks. But Jakks quickly killed off the legends line and then cut down to only 1 ra figure and now none, so I have nothing to buy from Jakks.
I was very hesitant to buy mattel. I saw the Sargent Slaughter figure..... it was wearing, what I thought, was a lame costume compared to what Jakks had done. Same with Snuka, I remembered him in trunks not pants and boots. So I felt they were just using inferior outfit choices compared to Jakks.
And the protos.... OMG, they looked horrible. The first figures I saw were not legends it was the regular line of basics. I remember HHH lookd horrible, his hair looked like it was poorly glued on and the molds look like the old ttl figures from Jakks. None of the facial sculpts looked very good to me. It seemed like wwe went backwards in quality to me. And those big belts the figures came with made me think Mattel had no idea what a wwe title looked like so they just gave us the cheapest chineese made belts available. I wish I had one of those belts now though, just for collecting's sake. And then I saw the Legends protos and remeber laughing at how weak they looked. The proto pics had visable screws in the figure joints. So when I went to the store and all the figures had on shirts/vests/jackets you couldnt see the shoulders or elbows. So I thought the screws were in there and visable.
I remember reading how people would compare Jakks to Mattel and say Mattel was better. It's all debateable I feel, but then again Mattel built on a foundation Jakks created.
It wasnt until I saw Legends Demoltion protos. Im just a big fan of Demolition (best tag team ever) so I had to have those figures. I was soo lucky to have found them. Right away I came home opened them and saw there was no visable screws in the joints so I was pleased. Then I saw they match up nicely with Jakks RA figures, so when I heard the Von Erichs were getting the figure treatment I again wished I would find them. Again I was lucky to have found them in stores AND on sale.
I didnt think I'd buy anymore mattel figures after that. But then Mattel killed the legends line so I found a bunch of figures for 8 to 1 dollars at various retailers. So I had a nice amount of figures and from there I kept buying. The only figures I actively look for though are legends/flashbacks, real legends though. Not Edge or Christian or HBK or guys who retired last year, not those guys. I like BossMan, Yoko, Macho Man, stars of the 80s/early 90s. And I also look for new faces im not familiar with.
The Von Erichs, Demoltion, and Boss Man are the only wwe mattel figures I actually wanted and was able to find at stores. Other than that it's been being at the right place at the right time when I find figures. I never thought I'd get a single Defining moments figure and then I find them on clearence so I got a few of those.
All in all I thought it was an inferior product.

Yes. I directly jumped over and realised how much better Mattel is compared to JAKKS. Been a fan ever since. Couldn't have said it in a better way myself! All day. Op, great observation.

I've loved them from day one. What got me the most was the attention to scale. Cool to have figures on display that for the most part, look to be in scale with each other.
