This is a question for the customizers. How exactly is the ankle constructed on a Mattel figure? Does anyone have any pics of a split calf? I was wondering if the ring part of the ankle that allows the pivoting forward and back was an actual ring, with a peg passing through it, or something else entirely.
The reason I ask, is that I'm refocusing my efforts on getting all the Daniel Bryan figures, and it's always bugged me a little bit that the ankle on my E12 Daniel Bryan is constructed wrong. The ring part is not all the way up into the shin. I can't force it by hand and don't want to boil it if it's not going to fix it for fear of messing it up worse. When I stand him straight up he leans to his right because almost a millimeter of the ring is poking out.
Any help is appreciated, if anyone knows any tricks for fixing, do share!

Its like the shoulder joint that goes in the body. I have cut open a shoulder and can post pics later.

It's the only one I've ever gotten with this problem. I tried to overlook it for a while now, but it bugs me. The paint and everything else is pristine, it's just that damn ankle. Do you prefer a + or - for karma?

what part are we talking about? the piece of the upper calf that goes down, into the boot that allows the shin swivel?
sorry. i re-read the initial post a couple times and may've confused myself. the ankle articulation is one thing while the calf articulation is another. to me, anyway.

It's the piece that connects the calf-piece to the ankle-piece. It's not in all the way, and I was wondering how it was constructed, as a piece that was shoved via pressure into the calf or if it is a ring that was placed over a peg and then the leg was sealed together. If it's a piece crammed in by pressure I am confident I could fix it. If a split is going to be the solution, I don't know what to do.

Ok I think this is what you are asking about. I know its a shoulder, but its the same as the piece that connects the ankle to the foot. I did this because my goal is to successfully mold and cast my own parts so I had to know how they worked lol. anyways the peg is molded in you have to cut it out, but could always drill through and put a new one in like they do with the prototypes in the pictures I have seen. hope this helps and was what you were asking about.

actually I already have the material and have casted some heads and mattel belts in it. It worked better for the belts since it was softer, but they have one a step up in firmness like the arms are in comparison to the belts. I also casted some plates for the belts too. good stuff since they make dyes and can change the colors of the material you are casting. I made a white winged eagle just to experiment and it came out ok, but I need to remold the straps and plates since I had a air bubble issue.
