Don't know if this constitutes as "classic wrestling" but I'm putting it here anyway.
So we all know Eddie Guerrero passed away in late 2005. Rumors floating around following his death gave the idea that he was going on to wrestle Shawn Michaels at Wrestlemania 22 the following March. Now I wouldn't know the truth behind it, but I'm sure it would've been one of the (unless Eddie jumps to Raw) interpromotional matches with big hype, like HBK/Angle from the year before.
Instead, we got an HBK/Vince rivalry with a so-so backstory, decent Wrestlemania match, and drawn-out ending. The storyline seemed to be going nowhere fast until Triple H turned on Vince and sided with Michaels, reforming D-Generation X.
My question to you is, had Eddie not passed, would Vince have belittled Michaels like he did? And with an Eddie rivalry, would DX have been able to reform?

I assume that DX still would have reformed. But the way they came (back) together may have just been different.
But boy oh boy, would an Eddie vs HBK match have been exciting to watch.

great question and yeah the topic does belong here.the main board is for current stuff only.
HHH had wanted a DX reformation for a while because he wanted to turn face post Evolutions breakup when he had finished getting Batista over so it would still have happened......
and hell to the yeah Eddie vs HBK would have been greatness.

The watered down DX stuff was definatly going to still happen whether HBK feuded w/ Eddie or not. And it was most likely going to be an interpromotional feud given that Eddie had vetoed a move to Raw during the 2005 draft. Eddie enjoyed being on SD so I doubt he would change his mind about going to Raw a year later.

I don't know why people think they were gonna have an Eddie vs. HBK match at Mania, because they definitely weren't ever heading in that direction. It seems like this is just a pipe dream the internet fans had for WM 22.
Vince clearly had it set to have HBK vs. Vince at Wrestlemania, with Bret's dvd being released in November of 2005, and Bret going into the HOF that year, it had "Montreal" written all over it.
If anyone can prove to me how an Eddie vs. HBK match was gonna happen, then I would love to hear it. Cause I don't see it happening.

The seeds were planted for HBK vs. Eddie at Survivor Series and all the SD!/RAW brand supremacy interaction during that time. A 1 on 1 match with them would have been great to see.

Eddie passed in November, a few months before the WWE starts building for WM. The year before, Angle and HBK didn't start feuding until the Rumble. Plenty of time to start an Eddie/HBK feud. I believe a former writter may have confirmed this rumor as well.

Yeah from what I've read and heard from various sources, the plan was to plant the seed for HBK vs. Eddie at WrestleMania 22 at Survivor Series in the RAW vs. SD! elimination match. Obviously, from there on the storyline would unfold.
