What's up guys I'm not sure if you remember the big thread I made last year with all my figures (roughly 350 mattels), but since then I've bought every figure that has come out from Mattel making it grow at least 1/4-1/3 in size.
I've come to a point where I am in a rut financially and cannot continue to purchase every set that comes out. So my question is simply, should I sell off the older versions of basic figures to make money in order to have money to buy the new stuff that comes out?
I plan on collecting all elites and first time in the line basics and new attire updates basics. I'm going to miss my massive 500+ mattel collection once it gets narrowed down to about half of that, but the money will do me well on purchasing new stuff as it comes up.
It may seem like I have my mind made up, but I'm wanting opinions on what you would do in this situation. All opinions and comments are welcome, as are questions.
Thanks for the long read.

What do you need every version of every character made for anyhow? Keep your favorites and sell the rest.
I had the same problem last year. I had every legend/dm etc and it was feeling like a chore. I Sold off 60-70 percent of my collection and in all honesty I appreciate my collection a lot more now. Its a more personal collection of my own favorites instead of having a completist collection which is basically Mattels Personal collection of figures.
Plus i had figures in boxes I couldnt even see anyhow, Now i have all my figs in one display case and it works way better for me.

I would love to have a completed WWE Mattel collection. Its hard to decide, but I think I would sell of some Basics. Is it possible that you post some pics of your current collection set-up? Would love to see that. I know your sig, but if you say you have like 500... or do you have the other ones just in a box? Maybe Pics could help us to help you.

Sell the old ones or your least favorites. you don't need 6 elite John Cena's.

For me, I agree with everyone else. I know it's tough to sell stuff that you really love, but sometimes you've got to do what you've got to do. You can always get online and probably buy most of it back later.

I was at a point where, it wasn't the same as yours, but I wasn't happy with my collection. I ended up selling the ones that I really didn't care for and it was the best decision I ever made. Try doing that first, and if you're still not happy, then maybe you just don't care for them anymore.

Personally I love having one figure of everyone made. Whenever a new figure of a person comes out I usually sell their other one and "upgrade". Hope this helps!

That is why I only buy one figure of each person. When and if a better likeness comes out of that person, I upgrade to a newer and better figure. Then I sell the old one on Ebay. I never seen the purpose of having multiple figures of the same person unless you are a die-hard fan of that particular person.

Man I had the same issue just as jakks lost the license. I had got to the point where i was buying every and all classic figure and it got to the point where i wasnt saving money and i was really buying without a purpose. I ended up selling about half my collection i only really held on to my shawn michaels, jeff hardy and a couple of hard to find figures and figures i really liked. Its a tough decision but everything happens for a reason i say sit back go over all your figures youll know which ones are worth keeping and which are worth letting go of. I wish you the best of luck

Im only collecting one line of Jakks and Mattel, basics and classics. I used to buy things that I thought looked cool like two packs, ruthless aggression, Rumblers etc.
But with dedicating to one line im enjoying It more, so I'm selling the rest of my stuff.
I know hats not really of much help, but wha I'm basically saying is stick to something. Like, buy one of each and when a newer oe comes out then buy the "upgrade" and sell the older one. Keep both if up you reall like it I guess buy there's no need t have 16 red cenas you know.

always start from the bottom -> up Sit back and look at the collection as a whole
I have 8 John Morrisons....cut it to 4, I have 20 Cena's...cut it to 10....etc. (Hit me up when you're selling, I might need a few things, lol.)
and when you get to a point where you're like "this is enough I want to keep everything else" you know you're done.
As a fellow massive collector, I've got over 500 Mattels too, I love having so many different versions of the same guy....but one thing I never buy is re-releases. However I've always said that if I need money or just want to slow it down I would sell off the multiples starting with my least favorites. It's easier to sell something you don't like as much as others.

i was doing the samething u was..... well with the RA line. i had so many different versions of Cena, Rey, Benjamin, RVD, Undertaker & Kane. Thats when i was like.... this is a waste of money to get all their different attires in figure form. so ya.... like everyone else said, keep the ones thats your fav... sell the rest.
