I know Mattel chose to go to the plastic jackets to cut costs, but seriously, they are causing damage to figures. Plus, you can't pose the figures nearly as well. The plastic jackets/robes/coats restrict movement so that the only position the figures can be placed in is the one that the jacket is molded for. I think that the fabric jacket on DM Bret Hart is 1000 times better than the molded plastic jacket on his ringside exclusive. Is the money Mattel saves on these pieces of junk worth the possible damage to the figure when you try to take the accessory off. I don't feel like it is. C'mon Mattel. Stop causing figures to break or stand stiff with their arms at their sides. With what they charge for the elite figures we should be getting more posing ability while still being able to keep their accessories with/on them.

For the longest I cannot understand Mattels motive behind this. The first elite series had Undertaker in a stiff hard plastic trench coat with and every series features stiff hard plastic elbow and knee pads from the very beginning. Whats the point of making the figure articulate if you cant articulate it in the first place? Jakks never did this before!

Yeah I agree. Don't understand how this even saves them that much more money. when figures cost 20 dollars, or 25 dollars here in Canada (not including tax), figures shouldn't have a 'budget', I mean does it really cost that many more pennies to use cloth over plastic?

There's no way they'd get something like Regal or Goldust's robe as good at the Elite pricepoint if it was done with cloth. It'd be baggy and would lose its more distinctive features.
I HATE plastic shirts, but the half-shirts (Rey, upcoming Taker) look fantastic. Sometimes it makes sense to do cloth (Yoko's robe, Vader's cape, Morrison's fur coat), but other times it's either a cost issue or it's simply them not being able to do the item justice. I look at some of the cloth stuff I have from Jakks, and it's fitted so baggy that it makes it look unappealing. Unfortunately, the cloth feels better and obviously gives the figure mobility, so I can see the opposing argument, too.
I wish they'd work more with the thinner material seen in Dolph Ziggler's first Elite. I think that would look good for Cody's entrance gear.

i agree that the coats or jackets are ok but those annoying shirts i hate, you can't even button the sides correctly.

I keep all rubber jackets on my figures except E9 Miz, and none of them are stiff or damaged.

It has nothing to do with costs...some coats need to be plastic to get the texture/details right. Edge's coat wouldn't be nearly as good if it was cloth...nor would the RSC Bret's half the details would be gone.I have no issues with them. They are easy to get on or off. True it would be nice if you were able to move the arms in them but seeing I display my figures only I can live without that. And I don't see it damaging the figures. Cloth jackets and shirts have done much more damage with staining.

The plastic coats and jackets are much better than the cloth ones. Far more detailed and without the oversized baggy sleeves that are unavoidable on cloth coats at this scale.
The plastic t-shirts aren't so great, they look like the guy's wearing football pads and I think the newest Miz in the Team Johnny shirt is the first one I've been able to get the shirt fully done up.
The cloth pants are the worst, they all just look terrible. But there's no alternative to that in some cases I guess.

The E9 Ryder had the same problem with his entrance gear.

So did L1 Steamboat, 2-Pack Volkoff, FB Yoko to name a few others. The longer it takes to find a figure at retail the more likely it is to bee stained when you open it.

i have mixed feelings on this...on one hand the alien rubber material they use to make coats like 'Taker & Miz I think make them better because they look more detailed, and the coats in real life are thicker
However the t-shirt route is the worst. While it's great we get back logos/details, they look really bad, and never attach together with those awful "snaps" under the shoulder. I feel that cloth/synthetic material is always going to be better and feel like im getting my money's worth more than alien rubber when it comes to shirts, vests, smaller coats, etc....but im OK with guys like Edge or Miz havig the alien rubber material for their coats
However how much more amazing would the E14 Booker T have been with a robe like the Jakks CS Harley Race....or the E13 Sheamus. Ugh.

I don't mind the guys that have sleeveless coats or shirts (i.e. E14 Rock and Taker, E15 Sin Cara, etc) The plastic coats do look better on some guys like Goldust, but it does suck when it hinders articulation, especially for doing stop motion.
In some cases I wish they would do hybrids of cloth and plastic but I am sure that is out of the question knowing Mattel's budget issues.
For example. Plastic coat with cloth sleeves so you can still move said figure. Same goes for the T-shirts especially ones that have a cool image on the back.

The only plastic gear i hate is the ones that limit articulation. As awesome as the RS Bret Jacket looks, it sucks I can't have him in his iconic pose.
