Does anyone know what happen with Santino's pec tattoo? His last Basic figure doesn't have it, and his model WWE '13 videogame model doesn't have it either...

Someone said the artist died and his family didn't give copyrights to WWE. Don't know for sure, but it sounded legit.

The Tat was on his past figures and video games. Very confusing as to why its not allowed anymore. I didn't know tattoo artists could copyright their Tattoos.

I'm pretty certain it's Marvel Comics' version of Conan the Barbarian. Which, if that is the case it would obviously be owned by Marvel and not the tattoo artist. That would put it in the same category as Punk's Cobra & Pepsi tats and Hurricane's Green Lantern emblem. IIRC, the wording of the poem on Rey Mysterio's ribs was copyrighted, which was why it couldn't be used.

Short answer, it's now appears to be a copyright issue. Longer answer that includes some speculation. The Tattoo on his chest is based off of the artwork of Frank Frazetta. Frank died in May of 2010, thus all his copy-written artwork and intellectual property is now being handled by his estate. A lot of the time, estates protect the intellectual property to a much greater degree than the original holder of those rights. One, because it's their 'job' and Two, the licensing of that property is how they make money for the estate. Why now? Things take time and they may have just been made aware of it. The tattoo has also been removed from Santino's latest Bio pic in the WWE Program

Its disappointing they have to leave it up because his figures and in game models always look off to me without it. Makes his 2packs 1 figure that much better, i still think its one of mattels best.

This figure lost its luster based on that fact alone. Makes me appreciate having the best of version. Now i regret selling my extra one, i could have swapped the head and knee pads, the singlet is very similar just the colors are reversed.
p.s. if you have his first elite treasure it, because even if they make a new elite, it'll be missing the chest tattoo.
