Mattel said they would NEVER let a figure leave the factory that had parts with unmatched skin tones, and we keep seeing some figures with this olive-greenish painted skin tones.
The hands on all suited figures are painted horribly. The hands on Michael Cole, Vince McMahon, and COO Triple H are this weird color.
The legs on John Cena up to Elite 14 (not sure if it was corrected on Elite 17) and Basics up to Series 20 are a darker almost greenish color also.
Diesel also has a painted skin on the chest that does not match the head or arms. This skin tone, however, is a lighter creamy color. I'm not sure if Kevin Nash has this issue, but I'd assume it would be the same.
Elite Undertakers also has a the skin portion of his torso painted, but it's not AS bad.
I'm not sure why this is happening, but all skin color that is painted is unmatched and very noticeable. It's like trying to put makeup over a pimple, everyone knows it's not natural and it just looks bad.

I hate this as well.
That 1 Primo figure with the painted head looks so f'n bad. It makes me kinda dislike Diesel as well. ..and yeah those painted hands are absolutely terrible.
I don't really understand why they do this...?

I don't really understand why they do this...? I forgot about the painted Primo head, and the first Basic John Morrison head was painted too. I believe it was used in 2-Pack Series 2 w/Miz and in as a single figure in I wanna say it was the Survivor Series PPV Set? But yeah, they were awful too. Painted skin just doesn't work. No idea why this is happening. It bothers me even more because they brought it up right as they took the line and flat out said that "we will never do this" and then did it. lol

Gotta cut costs by adding more paint!

I don't think it's very noticable unless it's in a photo with a flash. Diesel & COO Triple H look pretty close to perfect in person. But in a photo the painted skin tends to "glow" (in favor of a better word) But just from painting figures myself I'd guess they do it because it's easier to cover a lighter color with a darker color than it is to cover a darker color with a lighter on. Both the Diesel and Triple H torsos are molded in white. Still not sure why they paineted the COO Triple H's hands though.

I would say ask Bill but they would prob just give us some smart ass comment I sure hope so. I wouldn't blame MDT at all if they did. Lot of you guys act like fatties ordering the McDouble off the dollar menu and then complain to McDonalds Corporate about how the McDouble didn't do anything to curb your enormous hunger.

I did notice that with my Michael Cole. That seems very...oddly specific. I take it this scenario is from your own personal life.

I can come up with other, more-specific scenarios, if you're not satisfied. I figured the hunger part was a good metaphor for some of you.

i passed on the new global superstars yoshi tatsu because his head was painted so horribly. fortunately it seems like by and large mattel gets it cause most figures are ok. but ya the ones afflicted suck and those painted suit hands were horrible.
but it could be as bad as the horrible masters of the universe classics figures that have entire limbs painted flesh/whatever over molds of black plastic.

The painting on Michael Cole's hands are pretty bad, they resemble wax more than skin. However, contrary to some posts above, the hands on my Mr McMahon figure are fine. Couldn't agree more.

Diesels chest paint was the first thing I noticed and the worst part is if you scratch his chest then theres a silver scratch on his skin where the plastic shows through. Great figure otherwise but thats enough for me to pass on Diesel.
Not a Fan of painted skin tone. I understand why guys like Bam bam and Akeem have painted necks but a whole painted chest makes me dislike the figure a lot.
I hated cenas painted shins, and reys painted face under the mask. It Just doesnt look right to me. I remember too when Boss bill said skin tones would never leave the factory looking anything but a perfect match, Akeems and Bam Bams are great and mostly its near perfect but to me skin tone should be in the plastic, not the paint.

some just make sense if a main part of the piece is black with some skin tone of course painting it would make more sense. but i agree they need to work on matching them better.

They look pretty good to me and my naked eyes. It's generally in flash photography that they don't match.
I don't think people have a business mind when they think about figures like Michael Cole or COO Triple H who have painted hands. A paint app can sometimes be less labor than running a figure off in many different colors. The cost is probably negligible between plastic and paint, so labor seems like the obvious. Here's an example: Marvel Comics just recently adopted a 'self-cover' format, where the paper on the cover is the same as the interiors. The cost of paper is negligible, it's the labor changing out the paper rolls when printing that is cut by doing that. It's something that eluded me for years until I started thinking about things from a much more business oriented perspective. Mattel makes mass-market figures and are one of the biggest toy manufacturers on the face of the planet. It's just one of the things they do. At least it's a paint vs. plastic issue, and not a plastic vs. the plastic on the arms issue like over at Jakks. Paint will never be perfectly matched to plastic because of the different properties that make paint paint and plastic plastic.
EDIT: I also meant to mention that I understand where this argument is coming from. 6 or 7 years ago the prices that we are now paying for Mattel WWE figures are what we would have paid for DC Direct figures. DC Direct figures were premium figures with clean paint apps, lots of Deco and specific unique sculpts that were rarely reused, and now Mattel WWE figures are figures that are mass produced from generic molds and sold mass market to most stores, not just comic shops. DC Direct figures may not have gone up very much in price, but the quality control has dropped tremendously to make up for it. We live in different times now. Prices have skyrocketed. It's hard to pay what feels like a premium for a mass produced budget item, but trust me, the specialty items have only gone up. Don't believe me, look at Hot Toys vs. Sideshow toys just 5 years ago.

I find it annoying as well mainly because over time the paint starts to scrape off revealing the base paint. That's one reason why I refuse to use the Elite Undertaker for customs/fix ups.
