I've been reworking on completing my 1997 collection for the past few months and finally completed it today. I only collect Mattel figures from the 1997 WWF/WCW era. I only collect guys who are in their 1997 attire (or darn close) which is why I don't have Vader, Goldust, Terry Funk, etc. in my collection because they aren't in 1997 attire (sadly). 1997 was the year I started watching wrestling religiously and also started collecting figures. It hold sentimental value and takes me right back to when I was a kid.
For the fix-ups, I only use Mattel parts. I don't use paint or any other outside figure clothing. Everything is Mattel. The only thing altered is the use of acetone to remove some logos, paint, etc.
I hope you enjoy as it actually took a little bit of work. A very huge special thanks to Apocalypse and TheDean for helping me out with some of these! I can't wait until I can add Elite 19 HBK to this collection!!!
We will start of with 1997 Rock. It's a basic TRU exclusive Rock only I swapped out the knee pads for ones that are open in the back which is what he actually wore. Also, the figure originally came with a DM style head which wasn't even close to accurate. I swapped heads with a Entrance Greats Rock. I then threw on the DM shirt and glasses and gave him the classic IC title. Also swapped out the elbow pads for smaller ones. He's basic but came out great.
Wrestlemania 13 Undertaker. I took an Elite Undertaker and used acetone to remove the logos off the legs. Then I swapped boots and hands with Entrance Greats Undertaker. I also swapped heads with Defining Moments Undertaker. I then added the Defining Moments Undertaker top and put the Entrance Greats Undertaker shirt on top of that which gives it a real form fitting look. I know the gloves are black but it's the closest I could get without using actual paint. Added elbow pads and Entrance Greats accessories to finish it off.
Nash & Nash. All I did was add an elbow pad to both figures. Huge special thanks to Apocalypse for the Nash on the left. He did a torso swap and exchanged Nash legs for Diesel legs. I love it. Perfection. Also have both versions of the "WCW" World titles.
New...World...Order. I didn't change anything to Savage. I gave Nash a Diesel vest and it looks great. Special thanks to TheDean for helping me with Mr. Perfect. He has a calf swap to fix his height issue. Also the "Mr. P" logos were rubbed off with acetone to make him nWo 1997 Curt Hennig. I did a quick knee pad swap with him for accuracy. nWo in 1997 baby!
Rey-Rey is actually a basic TRU exclusive from his WCW debut in 1996 but he wore so many outfits that were similar I went ahead and used him a 1997 WCW Mysterio anyway. DDP is stock and the only thing I changed was a elbow pad swap for the medium sized ones instead of the small. WCW in 1997.
KANE IS ALIVE UNDERTAKER! Kane was good out of the box but did a quick boot swap for the glossy version to make him perfect. Undertaker is a regular Defining Moments figure only the bat wings have been replaced with an elite coat which more fits what he actually wore in 1997.
Hart Foundation. Everybody is awesome here. Bulldog & Pillman are stock. All I added was a Jim Duggan American flag to represent the Anti-USA stuff from 1997. Bret Hart is a regular Defining Moments version with knee pads added and an elbow pad swap for the smaller kind. Great figures. What is 1997 without the Hart Foundation?
More 1997 Bret Hart goodness. Special thanks to Apocalypse again for helping me out with my Wrestlemania 13 Bret Hart on the left. He did a beautiful torso swap with a Ringside Exclusive Bret and Defining Moments Bret. All I added was knee pads and smaller elbow pads. He also has the head from the Ringside Exclusive Bret which has lighter hair. Apocalypse did amazing work here and gave me a Bret in my favorite attire.
Wrestlemania 13. I Quit. I added Ringside Exclusive sunglasses to Bret. Stone Cold was great out of the box. I just added the Defining Moments Austin gold chain and did a knee pad swap for the kind that are closed in the back for accuracy. Great match and great figures.
Just for fun...nWo vs. Hart Foundation!!! Long live 1997!!!
Hope you enjoyed! Thanks again Apocalypse and TheDean for your help!!
