This may have already been answered, but why do Mattel label some figures as "Adult Collection"? SDCC Undertaker, and the All Stars Elite battle pack come to mind.
Some of you may say that the figured with that label are aimed more for adults than kids, but what about the Legends or Defining Moments line? They were aimed to adults as well but they weren't labeled as "Adult Collection".

I was wondering the same thing as I picked up the Austin/Punk pack last week.

The Adult Collector label is likely a way to bypass certain safety standards required for goods sold as children's products.

I don't believe that theory. Any consumer good goes through testing for safety.
I think they prob were just trying the term out. I will say that collecting figs is more socially acceptable than it was 10 years ago anyway so no need for a label.

I think it's dumb to put that on there because wouldn't it deter parent's from buying them for their kid.

I don't know about the All-Stars but MOTUC has that adult label so the SDCC 'Taker might be part of that trend. Maybe its a marketing gimmick so we don't feel stupid buying these figures.

^^as the OP stated Legends and DM don't have the label. I don't care I open them up and throw away the package (Except for Undertaker's box).

FACT: it is a way to convince you into justifying paying a premium price for a children's toy

FACT: it is a way to convince you into justifying paying a premium price for a children's toy Not really weren't the all stars 2 pack like 20 dollars? And sdcc undertaker 25 dollars? It's not really that "premium"

Are you kidding me? 20-25 dollars is not premium. I've said it heaps before but here in Australia basics are 20 and when we had elites they were 30. And our dollar is currently stronger than the USD

I don't believe that theory. Any consumer good goes through testing for safety. I think they prob were just trying the term out. I will say that collecting figs is more socially acceptable than it was 10 years ago anyway so no need for a label. I'm not saying they aren't still safety tested; they are. In fact, they're tested more now than ever thanks to all those lead paint scares a few years ago. The issue is that consumer products intended for children 14 are subject to the terms of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) of 2008. Toys intended for children 12 and under require additional testing from a third party beyond the internal safety testing done by the company that makes them. Additional marking and labeling on these products and their packaging is also required. By labeling an action figure as being for adult collectors, they don't have to submit the products to the additional third-party testing or additional labeling requirements regarding their compliance with CPSIA 2008.
