The reason for the failure of the Mattel Legends line was weak lineups in my opinion.
Couple that with poor attire choices and the over saturation of Jakks Classics and you've got a recipe for disaster.
Also, WWE in general has run off almost all of their old base and has mainly folks from the attitude area to present to sell to. So is it really that shocking that no one wanted a Piper/ Orton or Volkoff/Sheik set?
Rant over.

Well, I guess basic legends are better than no legends...
I wonder if Taker will be Elite or basic. If Elite I could see them using the E14 robe if they couldn't make the WM28 jacket on time.

Actually, he wasn't that bald. Neither he is now. I hope they're making it with his mohawk style.

Legends 1 & 2 came out at the same time KMarts HOF set was released. And all the HOF line was were rereleases of Series 1 & 2 on a HOF card with a cardboard plaque. So they were competing with themselves...meaning if you found the HOF you didn't need to find the regular version & vise versa. Then with the 2-Packs my local TRU had 30 + cases of them. With Jakks CSTT sets the store never recieved more than 3 cases of any wave (4 at the holidays) So that was 180 + pieces of the series 1 sets my store had to move. With Jakks they never had more than 18-24 pieces of any CSTT set.

I dont know if its been mentioned but that whole "pre order idea is interesting and we're looking at it" response is already in play. They have the Young Justice Superboy and Miss Martian figures up as a month long pre-order and they said they'll only make as many sets as they have preordered. So i see no reason why we couldnt get a set of say 4 legends and have each figure up for preorder for a month then produce only the number of sets needed.

Even though we didn't get them in the UK the twin packs of the Legends line were awful. Maybe Piper was decent the rest. No way they should have been released. Bushwhackers waaaay down in the line perhaps.

"Rebooking" the Legends two-packs line using stars we know Mattel had signed at the time...
Series 1 STONE COLD vs THE ROCK -- with vest and Attitude era WWE Championship. (3.5 per case) DEMOLITION -- with entrance gear. (2 per case) RODDY PIPER & PAUL ORNDORFF -- with robe, t-shirt and kilt. (0.5 per case)
Series 2 LEGION OF DOOM (in the right attire this time) -- with shoulder pads. (3 per case) THE ROCKERS -- with shirts. (2 per case) SGT SLAUGHTER & HACKSAW JIM DUGGAN -- with USA flag, 2 x 4, sunglasses and hat. (1 per case)
Series 3 MACHO KING & ULTIMATE WARRIOR (based on Royal Rumble '91) -- with bandana, sceptre and plastic shirt for Macho. Rumble '91 seems like the most achievable within a non-Defining Moments budget. Macho just wore a pretty plain pink attire when he interfered, and Warrior was wearing a USA outfit that wasn't as elaborate as his usual gear. All the stuff from their '92 days would be impossible on a standard Legends figure, I think. (3.5 per case) THE BUSHWHACKERS -- same as released. (1.5 per case) THE BRAIN BUSTERS -- with two tag team titles. (1 per case)
Series 4 STONE COLD vs BRET HART (Survivor Series 1996) -- with Austin's vest and Bret's sunglasses. (4 per case) DOINK vs CRUSH -- with Doink's coat and prosthetic arm. (1.5 per case) THE VON ERICHS -- same as the ones in the Legends singles. (0.5 per case)
Series 5 THE ROCK & FAAROOQ (Rock in the "RM" trunks, Faarooq in Nation gear) -- with Faarooq's hat and portrait of The Rock. (3 per case) MACHO MAN & MISS ELIZABETH -- with headband, shades, and robe. (2.5 per case) JIMMY SNUKA (barefoot) & BOB ORTON (same as in Piper two-pack). (0.5 per case)
Series 6 BRITISH BULLDOG vs SHAWN MICHAELS (based on their 1992 Intercontinental title change) -- with Intercontinental title, sunglasses and Bulldog's cape. (2 per case) MACHO MAN vs DDP -- pretty much the DDP singles figure and the RSC Savage. (2 per case) STONE COLD vs SAVIO VEGA -- with Million Dollar title and Caribbean Strap. (2 per case)

I hate how people keep asking about legend figures being made. Yes I get it it was the moment of your childhood, but come on it get's annoying and they don't sell well nor good simple. It's over. -.- Give us old timers a break, most of us dont collect the current line. So having one or two Legends every two months is that so much to ask for. As of right now flashbacks is our hopes of getting any old school figures.

If we would've gotten the DM5 (WM3) Savage, do you think we still would've gotten the BP14 Savage/Punk set? Not sure and not to sound like a dick but I honestly dont care. A)I dont collect basic figures so I would rather have an Elite pink Savage with robe, belt and all and B)The Basic Savage they released is majorly flawed and only came with a dull winged eagle belt.
