I know the packaging of WWE figures has been almost as hotly debated recently as the actual figures themselves.
With theft of accessories and "switching" being at an all time high, is it time Mattel FINALLY does something about it?
I know we have a lot of MOC collectors on here and people originally even resisted the change to white boxes because it made their collections look different.....but I think we are all in agreement that something MUST be done and something must me done SOONER rather than later.
I suggest Mattel switch to the plastic clamshell packaging similar to what McFarlane uses. The bottom line is you HAVE to use scissors to open it and there is absolutely no way on earth to disguise if it has been opened or not and it makes it nearly impossible to steal anything like belts/shirts/weapons from the packaging in the stores.
Now, I'm no businessman and I have no idea what type of impact this would have on the cost of production, but something has to be done. We've got people returning Jakks figures in Mattel boxes, people stealing the belts, stealing the shirts, stealing the build-a-figure parts.....it's gotten entirely out of hand, and the packaging is the biggest part of the problem right now.

I've just started a wall display again after they changed the packaging last time so no. Or same design more security... This doesn't seem to happen in the UK as much.....

I do believe that Mattel has to so something about their Elite packaging, as there are simply too many switcheroo's out there and it is also way to easy to only remove accessoiries and such from the packaging.
They may keep using the same packaging, but without all the flaps (left, right, bottom) that you can open and close without noticing. Not sure about this though, but it might save Mattel some money as well as they don't need to have a difficult cut-out mold anymore for the Elite packaging.

Nah, I don't think it's needed, as some people collect the white carded figures in that box design.

I got a better and cheaper idea!
How about Mattel put one of them stickers that change color after they have been peeled off. And therefore stores can tell if the packaging has been tampered with if a switcher tries to return it.
What do you all think?

Was just trying to think if it would look horrible on the elite package though.

Yeh a tamper proof Mattel logo hologram like the holograms used on autographed items, try and get them off and it destroys the underneath ....
I really like the white design better, although the carding does get bashed about a bit

Tamper proof tape would be the best.

I 1000% agree that the packaging needs to be switched to the plastic variation. That will put a complete stop to the madness.

I luv the look of the white elite boxes. And I have never personally seen a switcheroo or stolen belts.

I luv the look of the white elite boxes. And I have never personally seen a switcheroo or stolen belts. This. I honestly don't think that this dilemma is around a lot. I know it sucks, but you'd figure if it was a nationwide problem there would be tons more posts about it. I feel bad for the people who encounter this, but there's really nothing more they will do sadly. Adding the tamper proof sticker would be a GREAT idea just as long as they send notes to the retailers informing them of this that way they can announce it at employee meetings.

I'm abig fan off the new packaging personally, and love the fact that I can take my figures out of the box and put them back in if I'd like. However, I have encountered the ol' switcheroo and stolen accessories more than enough times. In all reality, I think these problems rest on the retailer's shoulders. If employees were more informed and had somewhat of a knowledge of these things, it wouldn't be as big of a problem as it apparently is.

Yes. It's time for a change. I have seen more than 10 Switches or stolen belts in the last 2 months. It's horrible.

The clam shell cases wouldn't stop it. Nothing will. People would still return them and just say they broke when they opened it. Or any other excuse they could think of.

I hope that you don't really think stores have employee meetings about action figure packaging.

Nah, I think its fine how it is. I haven't seen too many missing/switched figures or accessories, I think it just depends where you live.
