I don't know about anyone else, but usually when I hit around a certain number in my figure collection, I often reserve that number for a special figure to get. Like for instance:
When I hit my ninth and tenth figure in my collection, it was Elite 7 HBK and Triple H. I didn't get any other figure until we restocked E7 at my Wal-Mart. I held out because that was the beginning.
My 50th figure was my DM HBK, I stopped collecting until he was my 50th.
And for my 100th figure, it was Arn Anderson. I made sure that everything I ordered was after him, that way he could be my 100th figure.
I kind of have a ritual about these things. I stop collecting everything else until I have that one certain figure as that one certain number in my collection. Just makes it feel more special to me for some reason. But, once I start getting higher in numbers, considering I'm over 100 now, I won't start having those "Special Certain" figures until like 200 and 300.
Maybe I'm just crazy, I don't know. Anyone else do that, or am I alone on this one?

Other than the very first figure in a line I've never done that. I just buy the figures I want when I see them.

I don't do that, I don't even know how many figures I have even though they're not many

Well I had made it so my last Jakks figures were Sandman and Rhino. The two that I had wanted more than anyone, that I still needed to buy. My first Mattel Basic was Evan Bourne...didn't intend on buying Mattel until I got it, as a gift. The first mattel I bought myself was Defining Moments HBK...that set a chain reaction.

When I stopped collecting Jakks and had to sell them off, I was just under 300 figures. $10 a figure, about 3 grand just in plastic. Crazy when you think about it. I don't even want to factor my Mattels.

I've never done this. With poor distribution and only one store here in town that ever has anything resulting in at least a 30 minute to 1 hour drive to find some other stores that carry them.....there's just too many figures that I only see one opportunity to buy, and then never see them again if I pass on them.
