Talk about your favorite punk bands here. Discuss as many different punk bands as you'd like. Put up Youtube videos of your favorite bands, your favorite songs, awesome live shows. Put up lyrics. Discuss upcoming shows, upcoming albums, funny stories, whatever the case may be.
No sub-genre will be excluded! 70's punk rock n' roll, powerpop, streetpunk, UK82, D-beat, Japanese hardcore, noise, Finnish punk, crust, grind, powerviolence, hardcore, anarcho, post-punk, dark-punk, gothy darkwave punk, pop-punk, ska, 90's stuff, horrorpunk, psychobilly, Oi, riot grrl, deathrock, metal-punk, thrash. Talk about all of it.
Please leave any naysaying at the door. This is a topic for everyone who is either remotely interested in punk music or you're a casual listener/fan or if it's 24/7 for you, you're welcome here.
I'll start with this:
Lyrics:
We've got a dream in our hearts and we won't give it up!
Insane with desperation in a world so ****ing cold and grey Masked soulless creatures toiling, wasting day to day Production units, ****ing cogs, nothing but a number Hollow lives, some existence, do you ever wonder?
There must be an alternative to this insensitive way of life! There is an alternative, but we've got to ****ing fight!
How much longer can we exist in this **** world? The blueprints for the apocalypse have already been unfurled Government after government has proven ****ing false! Have YOU answers? What's YOUR answer? WE'RE the answer and the cause!
If the government is the answer, it's a stupid ****ing question!
Time and again we're criticized by those quick to buy into The media definition of what is anarchy. A media whose sole purpose is to serve the rich elite. The corporations: those whose sole interest is profit at whatever price. People buy into this **** unknowingly from birth. What alternative source of information are they given after all? None! You question, you doubt, you give up! Rebel a bit and get it out of your system. There are no alternatives, right? Wrong! You won't find change in government. You won't find change in escapism either. You will however find a change in you, in us. We are the system. We are the masses so many speak of. We are the root of the problem. We are at the base. Who will build the roads? WE WILL! Who will provide the basic necessities? WE WILL! Who will bring an end to poverty, homelessness, greed, war, death, famine, injustice? If anything, WE WILL! We are the alternative! There is no savior! There is no god! A better leader won't come along! A better government does no exist! JUST YOU AND I!

YES!
Im a huge punk fan, anything punk does me fine, however lately I've been into hardcore punk/metal-core stuff, mostly 18 Visions and Every Time I Die, can't beat that stuff.
Favourite bands in punk right now would have to be Rise Against, Cancer Bats, Anti-Flag, meh not too many others right now, big fan of the classic stuff too, Black Flag, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Descendents, hell I could go on.

Cancer Bats are great. Black Flag was one of the first bands I listened to and I still love them to this day. I don't think anybody is "too punk" to like The Ramones. Well hey if you like all the older stuff, based on the bands you named I think you might dig New York Dolls, check it out And in lieu of the newer bands you named, I'd like to introduce you to Gallows. They played a couple Warped Tours, were featured in a few AP magazines, but are still kinda under the radar.

Love Punk (Think i dicussed this with you in another thread), some of my favorite artists, to name a few that fit into the genres you mentioned:
The Cramps The Clash Buzzcocks The Only Ones Ramones Sex Pistols The Undertones Misfits X-Ray Spex Dead Kennedys Iggy and the Stooges Billy Bragg (Kinda folky, but there is some punk in there) Rancid Distillers Husker Du
Ska wise it has to be Madness and The Specials, you just don't get better, throw in The Beat and The Selecter. Gah, so good.
Post-Punk is probably my favorite genre as it contains two of my favorite bands of all time: Joy Division and The Cure. Not to mention other greats like Echo and the Bunnymen, Pshychodelic Furrs, Modern English, XTC the list goes on, even to the revival of it which bought some of the best current indie/rock/alternative acts.
Not a fan of recent main stream pop punk. I mean I like some early Blink and Green day, mainly for nostalgia, but lately they have just become utter garbage. It's so cheesy and just cringe worthy.
Edit: THE JAM. HOW DID I FORGET THE FREAKIN' JAM.

I like punk, or at least whatever I think is punk. I like too many bands to name. My favorite "style" varies from day to day. My preference is usually heavily biased towards bands out of the Boston area, like The Ducky Boys, Far From Finished, Blood For Blood, etc. Lately I've been more into a rock oriented sound with punk roots, if that makes sense? Stuff like later Against Me!, The Gaslight Anthem, and this solo guy, Bryan McPherson.
Oh, and last year, I got to see Stiff Little Fingers live. That was AWESOME.

i'm into pop-punk, hardcore, surf, emo, and melodic hardcore. some ska stuff too. the majority of music i listen to is some sub-genre of punk. i dunno, i'm not really into the "traditional" idea of punk, or like that 70's uk stuff, but i've never really tried to get into it.
watch american hardcore.

READ American Hardcore!!! The book is SOOOOO much better. WAY more detailed WAY more voices. The movie cut out 80% of the bands touched in the book. The entire book is quotes (stories) briefly seperated by transitional narrative. I watched the movie and was shocked to see what and more importantly who "didn't make the cut"

Pop-punk is my style of choice. I first got into "rock" fifteen years or so ago, and about eight years ago my tastes started to turn away from modern, radio rock (and the pop-punk that was played on those stations) to strictly pop-punk.
I still listen to a lot of alternative and some indie stuff, too, but pop-punk seems to be my go-to genre.
New Found Glory has been my favorite band for a decade now. They're about as pop-punk as it gets, though nearly all of their influences are hardcore (which is interesting, because I don't care for hardcore music at all).
The Wonder Years are a close second, and honestly, they may overtake NFG at some point.

Talking of tours, I've actually got OFF! and Trash Talk on Thursday, can't bloody wait, awesome line-up and an even more awesome venue. --- I'll just leave this here; Classic 18V, ing LOVE this video!

This thread is win. I just got to see Naked Aggression the other day in someones backyard.
This song has some of the best lyrics i've ever heard.
"Being honest is no means of survival Avoid your inner feelings like the plague This is what it takes to comply with the images This structure will accomodate But things aren't what they seem when they're partially hidden Behind walls of pretense built for peace of mind The barriers between us are forever maintained By our acceptance of the roles others choose to define
In a world of competition life's portrayed as a contest Where we're forced to live by making gains at others expense But no one's really gaining when perpetual conflict Is the result of our relationships based on pretense We don't need this cultural cosmetic division It upholds the self-interest on which the system feeds A deconditioned consciousness of mutual respect Is the only way to cure this cosmetic disease"

I actually hate Wade singing for Gallows. But I have an attachment for Frank Carter, his anger was inspiring.
Lately I've really been into newer post-hardcore; Polar Bear Club, Make Do And Mend, Seahaven, La Dispute, Touche Amore, etc.
Although this is easily the best hardcore band right now for me. Not even sure if they're hardcore really anymore, but they're fantastic.

If I generalized all the music I listened to, I'd have to say punk is probably primary based on all the sub genres of it I'm into. A few favorite bands:
X Pulling Teeth Discharge Guitar Wolf Polar Bear Club The Flatliners Dead Swans Rise and Fall Trap Them Wolfbrigade Charles Bronson The Locust Narrows Converge Nails All Pigs Must Die The Bronx Weekend Nachos Sabertooth Zombie Coliseum The Carrier Ceremony More Than Life

80's and 90's hardcore punk is my favorite. Minor threat, Gorilla Biscuits, Madball, Suicidal Tendencies. And Thrash is what I mainly listen to Slayer, Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax. Finally, Grindcore I listen to sometimes Napalm death, and early carcass.

I saw Touche Amore in april in a little coffee shop in front of probably less than a hundred kids. Spent the whole set singing with Jeremy, it was totally awesome. Probably my favorite band I've seen live.

Punk is the greatest music known! I am the biggest Ramones fan. And yes, I've seen them live. Three times. I've seen Joey solo once in NYC. I've seem Marky a couple of times and just saw C. Jay a while back ago with Daniel Ray. I can't wait for his new album to come out. Also going to see Marky again soon with Blitzkrieg.
Some of my fav bands:
Sloppy Seconds The Queers Boris The Sprinkler Wayne County The Dead Boys Richard Hell and The Voidoids anything with Dan Vapid The Addicts RANCID!!!
I love love love Iggy and the Dolls. I've been lucky to see the Dolls a few years ago. David Johansen is simply amazing. If you ever get a chance. Check out his blues band. David Johansen and the Harry Smiths.
lol actually this list can go on forever.

Lots of stuff to reply to, was expecting this topic to die the day I made it, hah Love Punk (Think i dicussed this with you in another thread), some of my favorite artists, to name a few that fit into the genres you mentioned: The Cramps The Clash Buzzcocks The Only Ones Ramones Sex Pistols The Undertones Misfits X-Ray Spex Dead Kennedys Iggy and the Stooges Billy Bragg (Kinda folky, but there is some punk in there) Rancid Distillers Husker Du Ska wise it has to be Madness and The Specials, you just don't get better, throw in The Beat and The Selecter. Edit: THE JAM. HOW DID I FORGET THE FREAKIN' JAM. Post-punk is one of my favorite genres in my teen years. Then I got out of it and got into streetpunk, then eventually crust. Then I got back into post-punk and gothy stuff after I remember how good the stuff was. Kinda lost my way for a while, haha. As said on here before, The Cure is my all-time favorite band. And I love Joy Division. That's cool as hell that you mentioned Madness. Pioneers of ska. I can't stand most ska, but I make an exception for them, Op Ivy, Dirty Surgeon Insurgency, and Big D. I love love love Gaslight Anthem. Will be seeing them in September at that whole Riot Fest thing. I think I've had '59 Sound rented out from the library since they got it in. Jealous of you seeing SLF, too. They were supposed to play a show with The Vibrators but ended up cancelling. Still got to see The Vibrators though, and SLF was replaced by Eddie and the Hot Rods. This thread is win. I just got to see Naked Aggression the other day in someones backyard. This song has some of the best lyrics i've ever heard. "Being honest is no means of survival Avoid your inner feelings like the plague This is what it takes to comply with the images This structure will accomodate But things aren't what they seem when they're partially hidden Behind walls of pretense built for peace of mind The barriers between us are forever maintained By our acceptance of the roles others choose to define In a world of competition life's portrayed as a contest Where we're forced to live by making gains at others expense But no one's really gaining when perpetual conflict Is the result of our relationships based on pretense We don't need this cultural cosmetic division It upholds the self-interest on which the system feeds A deconditioned consciousness of mutual respect Is the only way to cure this cosmetic disease" Awesome! I wasn't expecting replies like this! Naked Aggression is touring with Resistant Culture soon, so sick. Rudimentary Peni are lyrical genius, I highly recommend the album Cacophony for anyone who wants to get into some crusty anarcho.

Not even sure if they're hardcore really anymore, but they're fantastic. Agreed on Frank Carter. I feel like he was the band. Was lucky enough to see them twice before Carter departed. Saw F***ed Up at Chaos In Tejas (Austin, TX) and that was off the wall. If I generalized all the music I listened to, I'd have to say punk is probably primary based on all the sub genres of it I'm into. A few favorite bands: XPulling Teeth DischargeGuitar WolfPolar Bear Club The Flatliners Dead Swans Rise and Fall Trap Them WolfbrigadeCharles Bronson The Locust Narrows ConvergeNails All Pigs Must Die The Bronx Weekend NachosSabertooth Zombie Coliseum The Carrier Ceremony More Than Life This guy, seriously laying down the law. I bolded all the ones I like, all the rest I haven't heard of. But given your taste in the bands I do know, I should definitely listen to these. Sounds like you like some d-beat, too. Thoughts on Disclose and D-Clone? I pretty much worship them and Discharge. One of the most essential punk bands. Anyone who reads this would do well to listen to the Dead Boys. Punk is the greatest music known! I am the biggest Ramones fan. And yes, I've seen them live. Three times. I've seen Joey solo once in NYC. I've seem Marky a couple of times and just saw C. I definitely dig your list, except I've never cared for Rancid. Do you listen to Teenage Bottlerocket? @ UM, I'll listen to the song when my Adobe plugin decides to stop being a piece of **** (I have Linux), and I'll modify this post.
