A lot of people use automatic bidding snipers. You set your max bid amount, the time left you want it to bid for you (usually between 1 and 30 seconds). It will automatically bid for you at whatever time left in the auction you have set unless the price has gone past your maximum amount.

I made the mistake last night of placing my max bid about an hour before the auction ended. Of course someone upped me. I outbid them by a dollar with 10 seconds left and won the auction, but if I'd have waited I would've gotten the item cheaper.
All in all, I just enjoy the rush of winning an item. Sometimes I just don't use the best strategies!

By far, the worst eBay experiences I've had have been when the timer s up. I've had this happen a couple times, where I'm the highest bidder, the timer reaches zero, I think I've won, and then the timer flips back to one second just as someone snipes. So ing annoying. But yeah, sniping has kind of ruined eBay for me. It seems like everyone tends to bid at literally the last second. I've seen stuff go up by more than $100 while the timer is at 1 second. There are still good deals to be had on some random auctions, though, especially ones that are wrongly listed, so I still keep coming back.

That's only happened to me a few times, and thankfully I was able to get what I wanted later on anyway.

I only use the "buy it now" feature due to reasons stated above. This

I had a friend of mine who would always put things up for auction on Ebay. But he'd also have another account so he can up the bids and outbid others so they would spend more money. It's a shame it never bit him in the rear. He always made more money off it. Made me sick.

The persons max vote was higher then your next bid so you were losing it anyways. H didnt bid with one second left. his auto bid kicked in and it said he bid again. But in reality he had a higher max bid then you. Ding ding ding. Winner!

Last thing I bought on eBay was a pair of Mayhem Fest 2010 tickets. In what was the VIP section [where you had to buy a whole $200 package, PER SEAT, to get one in this section], I paid $142 for 2 tickets and free shipping. And it turns out they were the special edition tour laminates, so that made it even cooler.
I know what you mean about last second outbids. I do hate that, but it's the nature of the auction business.

I got so pissed while bidding for sold out tickets that I wanted. There was 5 seconds left and I clicked the button to submit my bid when all of a sudden this automated ebay message popped up warning buyers of fake tickets or some B.S. I obviously didn't have time to read it but it took me by surprise and delayed me long enough for the listing to end. It felt like someone played a cruel joke on me.

I have had this a couple of times. The only time so far it didn't happen was in January, I was bidding on Red Dead Redemption Game Of The Year Edition. Placed a bid, didn't check for several days, came back and I won. I was so happy, I even started YES!ing, before it was mainstream lol
