When you bid at the last second thinking you got someone an you end up losin anyway? I just bidded on something with 30 seconds to go thinking I had it and I lost. Anyone have some stories?

I usually keep two tabs open, one with the timer counting down and the other with my bid ready to be submitted, and wait until there's only about 3-4 seconds left and hit submit.
Usually works unless the previous bidder has a ridiculous max bid.

As a matter of fact, this happened a few weeks ago with a PS3. The bid was $94 with a minute to go. I only have $105 to work with. 30 Seconds left, and it goes up to $100. I get kind of worried, but with 10 seconds left I know I have this in the bag. 3 Seconds left, I submit my $105 bid and smile... until with ONE ING SECOND LEFT, someone outbids me by $2 -_- *edit* Here's a screenshot from my "My eBay" section:

I think that if you bid when it's seconds from expiring, the time should reset to 15 seconds remaining. Every time another person bids after this it resets again to 15 seconds. So it keeps going until no-one else bids within that extra 15 seconds. This is how it's done on EA's FIFA Ultimate Team and it gives everyone a fair chance of getting the card as you can't be sniped at the last second.

Lost out on a funskool Undertaker today. I had the winning bid in for 4 days, and lost it with about 5 seconds to go. It happens.....

Can't stand that. Last time it happened, it was a limited edition pair of shoes. I had been looking for them for years and it was the only pair that popped up anywhere. I did a max. bid of everything I had in my paypal at the time. Got outbid by 50 cents.

Yeah most auction sites have it if someone bids within the last five minutes it goes for another five minutes until no one bids. I kinda like the sniping bid sometimes

Last second bid swipers are why I have barely purchased from ebay the last few years.

Sounds like it's your fault for bidding at the last second... It was pretty much my fault bc I didn't bid enough. I did bid all I had though. Usually when people bid they bid a even number. I thought it woulda been an even number but it was more.

A lot of the stories in here sound pretty hypocritical actually. I mean, you guys are complaining about someone outbidding you at the last second. Are you not there bidding during the final seconds trying to do the exact same thing?

Why don't you just make sure you bid your maximum amount in the first place?

I only use the "buy it now" feature due to reasons stated above.

I just put in my max bid, and if I win, I win. If I don't, then it went for more than I was willing to pay for it. I don't understand last minute bidding like that.

the only time "sniper bidding" is good, is for the seller
for instance, i have a thing that's sitting at $2.99 for 6 days....with 1 minute left someone bumps it to $15...it makes me want to wet myself in happiness

No. I love Ebay. Forever, Forever. I agree, on several occasions I was lost in a auction for a Mattel, Jakks and WCW lot of accessories for $80 and another for a rare DA 18 John Morrison for $30 but other then that, very pleasurable service for the most part. Online auctions aren't really my niche.
