I can't seem to bring myself to pull the trigger on the 28 dollar price tag. Don't really understand Mattel's logic, if the Legend's didn't sell well at stores for $12.99 why would they sell for more than twice that online?

i agree. i love the Andre figure and was super excited to order it but the more i thought about it, it's just not worth $30. especially when i know that legends are only $12.99 at retail. i love the legends line and really want them to continue but not by way of ripping us off. i'm positive i'll get Andre in a trade or purchase through the classifieds here in a couple months for half the price or a reasonable trade. If 1 Andre is going for $28 +, where on earth do you think someone is going to just take a loss and help you out, especially for Andre the giant?? lol If the figure costs $28 at least, and that is what ppl are paying, no one is going to just sell you him for $15 and lose out or trade you for some garbage figure. If anything, the price is going to rise. there's always someone out there willing to part with their figures. i've collected mattel elites and legends for 5 weeks now and got about 50 figures total. i've spent atleast half of what i would've if i bought them from stores or online. if you look close enough in the classifieds and have a good rep with some of the awesome classifieds members here, many will help you out or take a few dollars off. i didn't mean that i'll definately get it for half the price but with patience, whether it's next month or next year, i'll score an Andre for a decnt enough price that won't be what mattycollector is charging.

Retailers didn't want the Legends line anymore, but people on this board (and on Mattel's board, I guess) wanted it to keep going. This is Mattel's only way of keeping it going for collectors that want it. It's probably not turning out to be a very successful endeavour, but they're trying.

Just dropped $43 on him...UPS 2nd day shipping. Figured if I was going to go up a few bucks to keep from getting slow shipping, might as well jack it up like $5 and get it in 2 days right?

Rockers are a little different since they were originally made to be sold at TRU. I'm guessing TRU passed on them after the low sales and Matty got stuck with them to be sold on their own site

I purchased two Andre's. I live on the east coast and the per figure total was US$25 (not too bad). Here is my take.
First, in my opinion, I do not see the Legends line going past 2 years. Especially, if Mattel continues pushing mid-card superstars in their fan poll. Did Mattel overproduce The Rockers? Is the price too high? Do fans not have any interest in The Rockers or Legends? I have no idea but I do know The Rockers are still available for sale two months after their release. Lets see how Andre and Taker sell. The future looks bleak.
Second, I do agree the total price of a Legends figure via matty is too high. You are not receiving any value added items off the purchase. For example, in addition to the DDP vest Mattel could have included a belt/t-shirt w/ DDP. Andre, Bundy, Anderson and Tully are very basic figures so I do not expect much here which is why the price should be adjusted. I understand the price is high because Mattel is producing smaller quantities. However, Mattel has to reassess their business strategy. Would you rather have a high price and low sales or low price and high sales? It is a double edge sword which leads me to my next point.
Third, I guarantee if you hold off purchasing Andre or any other Legends they will be available at a steep discount during the fall. It seems, from The Rockers availability, Mattel overproduced in relation to demand. This is exactly what happened with the Ghostbusters line. There's just one caveat. Most of the Ghostbusters figures sold out a week after their release date! So, if you cannot or do not want to purchase them at the current price I am almost positive they will be available in the fall at a steep discount. It is called liquidation folks! haha
Well there is my three point diatribe on the situation. I am not sure what will happen but I am glad to be here for the ride!

^ Id say there's going to be a high production of most of these guys simply because they were set for mass retail and not online. Once we get kicked into figures that were made exclusively for Online, we'll see how sales do.

Listen, all this bitching about price guys, it was brought on from ppl not wanting to buy legends in the first place. The figures got moved to mattycollector rather than getting scrapped altogether so us collectors can still get legends and not do with out. It was either this or nothing. nextly, the price is to support the line. I get so annoyed by these board posts sometimes for real. One minute everyone is crying where are the legends and why are they dying, and we get a shot to keep em around, then everyone turns around crying about spending $10 extra to save a line lol Talk about cheap skates ya know. Either support it or don't. We all knew it was coming down to this and that these prices were going to happen. Ya either swallow it and be happy were getting them, or just stop buying them if there to much for you. Simple as that. I am happy were still getting them, and I am a hard working guy living on my own so I have no problem supporting a company to continue making something I love. Whether it turns out that way in the end or not i'm damn sure going to try, and not be complaining about it.

I think that this line will survive past 2-3 years just like MOTU. Ghostbusters hasn't sold as well as they thought and I think they are going on year 3 and had a subscription service.
I just think that for the mid-card guys they will lower production to sell out quicker. Andre and DDP will have larger runs because they were supposed to be in Legends 7 and the Rockers were supposed to be ordered for TRU so their production was high as well. Once Mattel can see how the mid-carders do this year they will have a better idea of how many to produce and that alone will keep the line alive.

I'm going to order one later this week. Let's be honest though: this line will die. Too many collectors going "Oh yeah, I'd totally buy a figure of [insert mid-card Legend]! In fact, I'd buy two!" and then it turns out - surprise! - that they aren't buying them. Better start buying those Elite Flashbacks.

I really don't think the Legends line is in trouble, online is where it probably should have been from the beginning seeing as Jakks saturated the market. Of course it didn't help that Mattel ed it up by doing versions of characters that Jakks didn't do but that mistake is behind them now. Everyone has to remember it took Jakks FOREVER to even start a Legends line. Mattel launched a good one right out of the gate after pretty much every Classic Superstar had been made by Jakks and it made it tough on them. I have no doubt they will find their footing with the Legends line and with the Flashbacks to the point where we will get enough to satisfy our needs and some more obscure wrestlers.

Last October Matty discounted their Ghostbusters to $8. They're normally $20. I'm never paying full price for a Matty figure.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised at all if Mattel did a Legends "relaunch" in retail if they were able to secure the rights to Hogan and Flair. Those two are big enough names where retailers wouldn't be scarred away.
It just fell perfectly for Jakks. They had access to everyone and being a smaller company with 10x more reuse they were able to take more chances on their line-ups. Plus, the economy wasn't completely in the crapter so they were able to charge less for poor quality.

Ya know I was thinking since WWE is promoting Flair for the HOF and he most likely is appearing at the event...why wouldn't they produce figures of him? I mean the HOF and advertisments on RAW is more promoting of the competitions guy then just selling a figure.

I may be the only one that paid $32.50 for the overnight shipping. Andre the Giant will be here on 1/31/2012!! I should not have wasted money like that but I have no patience when it comes to wrestling figures LOL!!

guys...until Hogan and/or Flair LEAVE TNA alltogether there is absolutely no way they will ever have Mattel figures.
They are under contract with TNA wrestling. WWE cannot produce anything using their likeness and make money off it. You can bet your ass as soon as Flair finally realizes he is wasting his life in TNA and comes back they will have a "Flashback" Flair in progress.
Fact is, no one....except maybe a few people on this board who are financially well off, will be paying $30 for a "Legends" Tully Blanchard. He's just not that big of a name. I don't even know how Tully, Arn & Bundy won that poll. I really don't.
I'd be surprised to see the Legends line last the year.

I bought two Andre's when the sale started and plan on picking up some of those stands later. Honestly I'm only interested in picking up Andre, DDP and Elizabeth, since JYD and Crush didn't make the cut.
