What exactly are they trying to do with his gimmick? He's now back to wearing long pants and is entering to Johnny Cash's "Ain't No Grave" and cut a very ABA-ish Taker promo tonight on SmackDown. By that, I mean he actually talked. For a while. And they never had him do that within the past 6 or 7 years. One would think he's going back to his old ABA/ pre-Deadman roots, no? But his entrance is still the same as the Deadman character - the purple light, the same titan tron video, the smoke, the fire, the trench coat and hat, the "raising of the lights." And then to top it off, he ends his promo by saying, "Rest in peace."
So, this new character "The Last Outlaw"...is this supposed to be a hybrid of his previous gimmicks? If it is, I'm not really sure how well it's going to work. I'd rather just see him finish his career as the Deadman, but just letting him talk on the mic more than he has since he changed gimmicks.
Thoughts?

Thoughts? to me, it's interesting, as The Deadman Gimmick got stale, imo, and I thought the ABA-Deadman hybrid in mid '04 kicked ass, imo.

i saw his promo 2nite on Smackdown and it was great i like this Last Outlaw gimmick and its Taker anything they give this guy is awesome no pun intended and the reason for long pants is because i think he is wearing a knee brace now and it would show with tights and thats a no no it would kill the deadman

Didn't he just have surgery on a torn rotators cuff?

Taker has worn street clothes during his deadman era (Ministry to be exact) the pants could just be that.
Personally, i really like the added aspect of Taker's 'Aint No Grave' really fits to his character

Shawn Michaels ditched tights due to his knees, so that theory stands a chance.

He's talked that much before when he was the Deadman, it's just nobody watches Smackdown!

I really like the new theme and character to The Undertaker. I think it's refreshing especially if at mania, it'll be the last time seeing him. I think it's a nice touch to his "evolution" through the years.

I'm just gonna go with it. I've only ever seen him in his deadman gimmick, so this is a fun change up.

I like it a lot. In fact, the only time I have ever really liked Undertaker, is when he was the ABA.

It's a perfect fit for Undertaker at this stage in his career. One of the things that has helped him be relevant this long is his ability to constantly evolve, and now "The Last Outlaw" is that latest evolution.

I think the music doesn't fit the entrance and feel of the Undertaker at all. The lyrics go well with the "Last Outlaw" character though, it just the music doesn't make the man. IMO.

I personally really like it. It gives me the best of both. I was always a bigger fan of the ABA taker. This here, lets him go out, true to what made him, but gives it a fresh twist and we get the mic work, which I've really missed. Mark is awesome on the mic and doesn't get to showcase that enough. To sum it up...... two thumbs way up.

i actually kind of like the last outlaw type gimmick. i think its probably better for him too. he can have all that mystic supernatural stuff and still be himself more. the song is really great cuz a. im a big johnny cash fan and b. it makes his entrance almost seem creepy again. i gotta say that u gotta respect taker for still changing things up at this point in his career. it shows hes not just resting on his reputation and hes still working hard.

I still think the music is just temporary, He'll go back to the Graveyard Symphony. That is the most epic music in WWF/WWE music IMO.

It was odd hearing him use that as his theme. But I like the way he does promos. When he was the badass he could do more with them where as his deadman character restricted him somewhat.

Man, that Johnny Cash "Aint No Grave" as his entrance music is super badass. And the promo was great. I didn't notice the pants to be honest.
I am typically pretty bored with Taker, so I'm happy about this.

It seemed pretty clear to me that its all part of that final evolution of Taker preparing him for his retirement after WM28. He is becoming 'humanised' so he can go out in a way that makes sense and doesnt seem completely out of character. The Last Outlaw is a great name and i like the Cash song however im not so sure it works so well as an entire entrance theme, if they could incorporate it into his standard one id probably prefer that. Its great to see Taker change it up and will be interesting to see how it goes. Just hope he can be healthy for the remainder of his career.
