I think the problem you're facing with the girth is that JAKKs have been making very exaggeratedly proportioned figures for so long that it seems weird when you look at the more realistic looking Mattel figures. If you look at any of the current WWE figures and then look at the real person you'll find that actually they look extremely similar, it's just that the JAKKs figures are, very literally, larger than life in their design. I agree with you about the scans but what I've noticed is they only seem to look bad in photos but, in person, they're actually very very good, granted they aren't like the JAKKs scans which are consistently fantastic (until they have to put a beard on them) but they are very good. Now when you talk about the joints I think it's the same as the problem you're finding with the girth, Mattel have an advantage over JAKKs here because they are a company who target collectors but, because they're producing WWE figures, they get the money of the casual fan and the parents buying for their children. This means they can afford to pay attention to detail in a way JAKKs should be doing but aren't (they can't rely on the TNA name to bring in the money like they did with WWE and, instead of appealing to the collectors as they should be, they cheap out on the figures again, as usual) so you'll find that, actually, the joints are in the correct points of the human body as opposed to the JAKKs approach of "we can bend in the middle so put a joint somewhere near there" whereas Mattel say "Where in the middle do we bend? How do we translate that into our product? What do we gain from it?" - This is shocking to us because for fifteen years JAKKs have said "Let's make new figures with TTL technology, but sometimes the arms won't have any joints at all in them because it saves money on the tiny strips of metal on their feet". In short, BUY MATTEL YOU WON'T REGRET IT. I like Mattel better but can you give an example of that? I've collected Jakks for years and can't seem to find a joint on a figure that would explain what you're referring to.

Terrible, Terrible figs. Use your money on something with quality other than these pieces of garbage, such as Charapro figures. Now those are what Wrestling Figures should be, not these skinny pieces of poop. Not to mention to me most of the headscans look like they were made from the same mold to start from. I love CharaPro, but give me a break.

Jakks figures look like crap compared to Mattel, atleast they somewhat resemble Human being in both scale and proportion. Jakks is basically for little kids who don't care about scale or size and just want something to play with.

Some really interesting comments and points guys - very much appreciate it.
I think I will wait for the Legends figs to hit my local store and make my final decision once I see them in the flesh.
So far the modern names have not tempted me in so it's down to these guys to do the job.
Of course being UK based I have a massive problem that Mattel UK are not bringing the Legends in BUT one retailer is importing them direct so just a matter of time.

Any one who says Mattel doesn't have good headscans is a moron. Looking at my collection the only figure i see with a scan im not 100% happy with is basic Swagger. Now im not going to lie they've had a few bad ones and some hair color problems with some figures, but the best of Mattel's scans are better than Jakks best, and the worst of Mattel's scans are better then Jakks worst.
I was happy with jakks and bought their bullcrap for years, and now that we have Mattel i feel like a fool, Mattel is the top of the line for me and im 100% happy with all my purchase and 99% of what ive bought have had very little to no flaws. I used to go in to buy Jakks figures already knowing that i'd have to make a fix up somewhere on any figure i bought on any given day.

I bought a Series 3 Jericho, and from that, I will never own a Mattel figure again. Too small ( main reason I didn't take much to the early TNA figures), and I almost feel like it will break with me playing with it. I will stay a JAKKS collector for the time being.... But I'm swaying more towards NECA. I would love to see some wrestling figs from them. EDIT: 900TH posts, woo woo woo.

I like them quite a bit. Especially in the cases of the Legends. Yest theya re too expensive, but that's one of the good things about having leftover Jakks, I can take them to the flea market and trade in the inferior for the superior. Of course, there were a lot of great CS that I will keep, especially all the Hogans and Koko, but Vader is going back, Kamala is going back, and anybody that Jakks crapped out on that Mattel picked up the shattered pieces of gimmick.

Thats one thing I really like about Mattel so far - the fact they are correcting Jakks horrors. Kamala looks amazing as does Vader - I just need to see them in person and pray they live up to the photos. If not I guess I am done.

Let me speak from a person who honestly was NOT sold on Mattel when the switch first happened...
We're 7 months in and I already own over 60 Mattel figures and am planning on dumping off more Jakks as the months go by while expanding my Mattel collection.
I love Jakks for what they gave us...people who argue that Jakks didn't make good scans are just grabbing for straws. Jakks had about 6 bad scans in their 7 year run with RA & DA figures. They re-used scans quite frequently, so I can see why people would be sick of a certain head. Mattel has been really all over with their scans. Basic Swagger is horrid. Basic Mark Henry is amazing. Basic Triple H is alright.
Anyway, Mattel has brought me in with their awesome attention to detail on the wrestler's attires. When you see a guy change his gear up, you KNOW Mattel is going to make it, and make it look right. That is why I want to purchase their figures. Because I am getting a figure that looks pretty close to the real person, especially in their attire.
The Elite line has really sold me more than anything. I display my figures proudly, every so often I like to take "action" shots so Elites are best for that. Not to mention the shirts, pants & superstar exclusive accessories make pretty much each figure stand out on its own.
Not to mention you can tell that Mattel has a genuine passion for making the figures and will LISTEN to the collector community. The Legends Line shows this more than anything.

Obviously you are simple minded because its obvious that i mean as a whole. Anyone who could say that they dont like Mattel, because of bad headscans is a moron, because there are way more good scans, then there have been bad. Its not that hard to understand, i acknowledge that they have had a few bad ones, but they've also had very good ones, so for someone to say they dont like them because of bad scans doesnt make sense because there have been great ones as well. If everyone was bad i'd understand, but to the people who say they dont buy mattel because of bad headscans are just wack. It baffles me that it was that hard for you to understand, come on now. I also said that Swagger was the ONLY one i was unhappy with. Now wouldnt i be stupid if i said that i hate mattel because of bad headscans just because of that one Swagger? Because thats what some people are doing. "Oh they've had 6 bad scans out of 50 so far so screw em"
