I didn't have any trouble with it, but then I didn't follow the directions steps in order either. I went in this order- Step 3 Step 5 Step 6 Step 7 Step 4
when I figure out where it's going I'll do the remaining steps (ropes & turnbuckles) in this order - Step 8 Step 9 Step 10 Step 1 & 2 (the stair case) Step 11
But just sew the elastic back to the apron. I know that's not what you want to hear especially on a new item, but it is correctable. Also in regards to the the Customer service besides the poor attitude it is too new of an item for them to know about or offer replacements to. It more than likely isn't even in their systems yet. This happened to me with the Jakks WM 2 RSR. The morning I got it the elastic (small black ring) used to hold the turnbuckles together on the hooks broke off the turnbuckle. So my wife sewed it back on and it's much stronger now.
