It's from the animé series (late '70s). Those pop up regularly.

I was gonna buy a lot of those figures from yahoo auctions for around $12. It ended before I had the chance to do it.

Great site ruby, so you could say these tiger mask figures from the 70's were, i guess, the first wrestling collectables (gorgeous george doll not included.)

Great site ruby, so you could say these tiger mask figures from the 70's were, i guess, the first wrestling collectables (gorgeous george doll not included.) Not really; these figures are from an animé about wrestling. It wasn't until 1981 when NJPW licensed the name Tiger Mask and Satoru Sayama would wrestle as Tiger Mask for NJPW. By 1981 the Animé was in it's second incarnation: Tiger Mask World II. Three wrestlers were made in (probably) the late '70s as figures: Giant Baba, Antonio Inoki and a masked wrestler with an 'X' on the forehead (name escapes me), again these were the animated versions from the Tiger Mask animé. Marusan also made figures from the animé and had also 2 wrestlers in the series: Dos Caras and Mil Mascaras. The animated version of Rikidozan was made by Denjin for their series of Tiger Mask animé figures.
