It's honestly starting to drive me a bit mad the amount of overpriced 'buy it now' hasbros on the UK ebay.
Now don't get me wrong this guy looks like a good seller with good photos and descriptions but surely there aren't people paying these prices for Hasbros??
I know were seeing the market pick up and there have been figures going for big prices but I can't see all these Buy it Now auctions helping.
The number of unsold items must be massive. It also only takes one to sell to cover all the listing fees they incurr sticking them on week after week.
And probably the route of my frustration is that it makes it a lot harder for me to buy figures and find bargains!
Edit: NO active auctions please

ooh that is pricey! i've got 2 theories about these high BIN prices
1. the seller is a "toy vendor" and although has a lot of knowledge about old/retro toys doesn't have detailed knowledge on every toy line, so when an item like this comes up, the price is a ball park figure based on the cost of other MOC figures from it's era?
2. desperate sellers hoping for quick cash. especially this time of year - from listing to money clearing into a bank account via paypal for a 7 day auction you're looking at nearly 2 weeks. BIN can potentially cut out that 7 day auction time frame

I buy loads from the US too, in the last year I've been hit with 3 custom charges all together. Could be worse I suppose, but it's still a pain. Just a risk you take.

As a seller - I can tell you that high BUY IT NOW prices are based on several factors -
1) It only takes 1 willing customer to press "BIN"
2) Many 'new' collectors are not sure of the prices, so when they see something like a 'boxed Shawn Michaels, in his old outfit, from 1993" - they get excited
3) Parents will buy stuff for their kids, family. They often don't know actual values and are willing to pay more
4) Time of year does make a difference. Around Christmas - people panicking for last minute gifts, can get crazy!
5) If he's a toy vendor - you can't really be sure what he paid for it. So if he bought it for $5, he'll be happy with $20. But if he bought it for $30, he'll want $60
6) Folks need to remember that when selling globally, you're dealing with SOOO many more people. So - someone effected by a recession in one place, in one industry, is totally different that someone not feeling the effects, in a more affluent country/industry.
I could go on....

Are you Steve-XX in disguise? If you mean me - not sure who Steve-XX is. I can tell you - I've sold a few figures and watched several figure auctions over the years. I'm often surprised by what some people are willing to pay. And for those looking for bargains - they are always out there. You just have to do your due diligence and research. Of course - premium pieces will always be premium pieces. I'd love to write a book!
