Am I correct when I say the protos of Series 7 LJN figures of Bad News Brown, Brother Love, Bushwhacker Luke, Bushwhacker Butch, Demolition Smash and The Barbarian, were NEVER seen?

Thanks Old School. For the longest time i had hoped protos or even sketches would surface. I still hope this is the case one day.

There were RUMORS of the Bad News Brown prototype being shown at Toy Fair 1989. It would be nice if more information would surface about that. I wonder if anyone has any pictures from that event?

Were there any toy/action figure mags (like Lees) around at the time that would've covered it?

Were there any toy/action figure mags (like Lees) around at the time that would've covered it? Not that I know of. Bad News, in his shoot, said that the front office killed his figure after it had been given the green light due to racism. Take it for what it's worth, but by the way he talked, it sounds like it existed at some point.

I remember Model & Toy Collector being around at the time, but I think they dealt more with vintage toys than upcoming stuff. I'm not sure if Tomart's was around then or not, but I know that they were doing price guides.

I heard about that too with the proto of Badnews at a Toyfair for LJN/Grandtoys. I also heard about him in his Shoot interview with the RF at www.rfvideo.com/index.cfm on "Why his LJN Action Figure Didn't Come Out" and that "Vince, Hogan, Andre, Macho Man & Piper are total bigots" that is the reason why his figure was unreleased. Umm I really don't get that one. You may see it on youtube. the only sketch I have ever seen is when the wrestling ring co. send me there last order form and it had Demolition as a set tag team to order. they had a drawing of Ax and one of Smash. Smash looked just like Ax but with long hair and the face paint was like Smash's. I figured it was just to put on the order form. They were $16.99 each. I was 14 at the time so I had no money. haha. I am now 34. I really wished I would have kept that paper. It was an all white paper with black writing. But I swear on my kids that is what I saw. I really don't think it was the real smash figure or a proto. It was just for the form. I did write to the Wrestling Ring Co. A few months later but the company had moved and shut down. so that my info on this. later dudes.

The thing about his figure not coming out because of racism doesn't really hold water. After all, JYD, SD Jones, Koko B. Ware, Slick, and Kamala all got figures. For that matter, so did Mr. Fuji, Tito Santana, Jimmy Snuka, etc.
Honestly, the WWF line was far more diverse than most toy franchises of the time.

Could be that the toy line just folded plain and simple. If you listen to Bad News in any interview according to him everyone was a racist. I'm sure their may have been prototypes of the next line of LJNs but they would've surfaced by now. I mean you can find just about anything nowadays on this internet thingy.

I find it hard to believe that they would've plugged the next series before even getting to the concept art stage. That LJN Slaughter mold (from the beginning of the line) only showed up recently, so we can still hold out hope.
I don't know if I knew until now that the cardback of the last released series mixed the new wrestlers in with those in the last series. To me, that makes it more likely that something exists or did exist, because it wasn't even a "coming soon" listing.

One thing that I always found weird was on the back of the black cards you have pics of already released figures. Now I know you can find brutus and hacksaw and big john studd etc on black cards, but alot of them have a Hogan 89' bio card. Now I noticed over the years that some figures actually came with a special 89' card too. For example the Honkey Tonk Man pic posted above says wrestling superstars 89'. I have a Macho Man and Hacksaw backings. Macho Man's is an 89' card whereas hacksaw has a Hogan 89' card. I seen a Macho Man listed not too long ago on ebay and he had a Hogan 89' bio card. Anyone got any idea why Grand Toys went out of the way to make some have new bio cards and others just have a hogan 89' card??

here's a pic without the glare..... The people at LJN messed up with the black strap Andre. They mistakenly put the strap on his right shoulder instead of his left. I don't understand how they made the mistake when the prototype with the blue boots has it on the left shoulder. Looking at the attachment pic that lamby provided, you can see that in both the bio card of Andre and his other his picture below featuring all the other wrestlers, reversed pictures of Andre showing the strap on the right shoulder are seen. Do you all think these were the actual pictures of Andre that LJN had to work with which would explain their mistake or do you all think they realized their mistake after the final figure was made and thus they reversed the pictures on the LJN cards as a sneaky way to fool people into thinking this is the way Andre regularly appears.

Having seen the RF shoot with Bad News multiple times, no such question or comment was ever asked/made about the figure. I'm not saying it wasn't asked in another non-RF interview with Brown, but nothing of the sort was discussed in the RF one.

I know exactly the page you are talking about. I have a magazine from around then with that exact page. I will try to find it in the archives of my house and scan it. I remember the drawings and the ridiculous price very well. Bad News was named as was Smash. There was a crude image of the Andre as well.
