Yeah we all recall that. For all of us older guys who are in there 30's we were all kids that bought up the LJN figures. If you all have seen, that on the bottom of those last series with the black card. The figure's foot saids "Grand Toys"http://www.grand.com/ LJN was still making the figures, however Grand Toys were selling them threw the Wrestling Ring company/warehouse. I one time wrote to then in 1990 and the letter came back saying the company had moved out of the warehouse with no forward address.
In 1988 me and my brother were at mejier and they had a PWI mag with the toy ad on the back.
(Here is the ad)
My mom got it for us. I wanted my dad to order some for us, but with the figures costing $11.99, back in 1988 that was a hell of a lot for a figure. So we got two each for Christmas. I got Ax and Million $$ Man. My brother got Whie Shirt Hogan and Hacksaw. My younger brother got Honky.
Just like any other company to buy from in a catalog.. they always send you more junk in the mail. thespam is very good for that. The next order form I got had the figures for $16.99.
Andre the Giant (black strap)
Ulitmate Warrior (red tights)
Warlord
King Haku
Rick Rude (green tights)
Big Bossman
I was working at a apple farm making a little bit of money so I got just the Warrior. The Best thing I ever got.
A month or two later. I got another order form, same as the last one, but the figures were droped in price $6.99 so I got Bossman, Haku and Warlord. All the figures were still the same series but warrior & andre were no longer for sale. A few months later I got one last order form. It was a white paper/flyer. it had more of the old wrestlers, however it did have Smash & Ax on the paper. Now there were no pictures on the paper just words and a drawing of the ax the figure and smash. They both looked the same, but smash had long hair. The drawing was really crapy, so could not make out his face.. that was in 1989, I was 12. So I no longer have the paper.. but I swear on my life and my kids that is what I saw. I also called grand toys, but they were no help. They told me to contact jakks since LJN ceo went and started jakks after the closeing of LJN in 1994, Jakks was started in 1995/1996
I have also heard from others that the only Proto that was shown at the fall 1989 toy show was Bad News Brown. However in Badnews' RF video shoot interview he said that Hogan, Vince, Andre, Piper and Savage were all "hating on me cuz I am black and that is my LJN figure was never made" I don't understand how being black will stop you from having a toy? SD Jones, Koko and others have figures. Whatever?

Unreleased Mean Gene with ring and tape for theme songs
Sgt Order from
Mail away Sgt, made by Hasbro for the WWF LJN figure line
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_SuperstarsPrototypes, rarities, and errors
Various different prototypes were photographed in various LJN advertising and packaging, such as: an Adrian Adonis with scarves, Rick Steamboat with red trunks, Tito Santana with an entirely different mold, Fred Blassie with a painted cane and glittered jacket, Hillbilly Jim with a black undershirt, Jimmy Hart with a pink megaphone, Kamala with an alternate paint job, Haku as 'King Haku', Rick Rude with green tights and unproduced bendie figures of the British Bulldogs among others. To the left shown is a photographed prototype of Mean Gene inside the wrestling ring with an audio tape. No mic is in his hand and much smaller body, unlike the released versions that includes a microphone (w/ or w/o wwf logo) with a larger body.
Photographed prototype versions of George Steele with painted on chest hair, as well as a Roddy Piper figure with a panther shirt are rumored to have actually been produced.
LJN also produced a kid size WrestleMania Championship Belt. The packaging for the title belt featured pictures of unproduced large size "Wrestling Superstars Muscle Grip" action figures of Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage complete with title belts.
There were also Canadian release 2 pack "Value Packs" which contained a totally random assortment of any 2 figures generally from (but not limited to) the first 3 series of the line.
The final series of figures that were scheduled but never produced included: Bad News Brown, Brother Love, Bushwhacker Luke, Bushwhacker Butch, Demolition Smash and The Barbarian [1]. Photographs of these figures appeared on the backs of the black Series 6 Superstars '89 cards and they were mentioned in various ads by a company called The Wrestling Ring contained in 1989 issues of Pro Wrestling Illustrated and their various publications.
An 8" Sgt. Slaughter figure was made by LJN. Slaughter had a contract dispute with then WWF over merchandising, and left the company. The figure was never released to stores and was instead purchased by Hasbro. Hasbro then made the 8" Sarge figure available as a mail order tie-in with their G.I. Joe action figure line. The 1st design of the figure was a re-molded body of Jimmy Snuka.
There were 2 prominent misspellings on the red stickers affixed to the figures' packaging. Vince McMahon's name was spelled "Vince McMann" and Bret Hart's was spelled "Brett Hart." Neither were ever corrected.
The original Sling 'Em-Fling 'Em Wrestling Ring was recalled due to children impaling themselves falling on the corner ring posts. The posts had no give and would not budge if weight was applied.
