This is the first installment of what i hope to be a weekly post
note that these should be taken at face value, regardless of whether they are indeed true
so here is the first myth:
1. THE CURSE OF JAMES DEAN'S CAR
On 30th september 1955, James Dean was killed when his porsche Spyder crashed head on with another vehicle. Dean loved his car, which he named Little Bastard, but girlfriend Ursula Andress refused to ride in it, friend Nick Adams was unnerved by it, and when actor Alec Guinness saw it, he started trembling and warned Dean not to drive it, telling him he must get rid of it or he would be dead within a week. Less than a week later, Dean crashed on his way to a race in Salinas - Little Bastard ended up in a ditch, "like a crumpled pack of cigarettes", and Dean was dead on arrival at ER.
The porsche then found its way into the hands of George Barris, "the King of Kustomising", who bought it for parts. When Barris took delivery, Little Bastard rolled off the flat-bed truck and roke his legs. Barris sold the engine to Dr Troy McHenry and the transmission to Dr William Eschrid, both of whom crashed during the same race in October 1956: Eschrid was seriously injured when he rolled his Porsche over, while McHenry was killed when he lost control and veered off the track. Meanwhil, Barris had sold 2 of Dean's tyres to an unnamed man who returned a week later complaining that both tyres had blown simultaneously, causing him to crash into a ditch just like Dean himself.
Barris then lent the crumpled car body to the California Highway Patrol for a road-safety exhibition but, while it was being transported to Salinas, the truck carrying it skidded and crashed, killing the driver.
The last time Barris saw Little Bastard was when he lent it to another road-safety exhibition in Florida 1958. 31 years later, the Los Angeles Times quoted him as saying that he saw the Porsche being loaded up after the exhibition but, when the truck arrived, the car had vanished. The multiple deaths associated with the car are a macabre echo to Dean's own philosophy;
"DEATH IS THE ONLY THING LEFT TO RESPECT. THE ONE INEVITABLE, UNDENIABLE TRUTH".
i hope you found the time to read this, as it is quite interesting
