Hulk owns the name Hulk Hogan now.
Also, if WWE already owns the likenesses to everyone that they own footage of, then why did Jakks need to bother signing anyone to a contract?

WWE DOESN'T own the likeness to "anyone they have footage off". Where did you hear that garbage?

WWE DOESN'T own the likeness to "anyone they have footage off". Where did you hear that garbage? exactly, that's the point I was trying to make to pc83uk - WWE only has permission to use the superstars physical likeness and real name while they are under WWE contract. after the contract expires, their real name and physical likeness is no longer exclusively licensed to WWE. WWE only owns the video footage of their time while they were under WWE contract. Well, yes, but why on earth would they make a Black Reign classic superstar? That's my point. The options for "classic" superstars that are clearly legally viable are mostly stupid and would indicate a huge downturn in credibility for the line. A Dustin Rhodes figure is a possibility, but a "Dustin Rhodes from WCW in 1991" figure is legally dodgy. Just like a "Macho Man from WrestleMania 8" figure is dodgy. Or a "Sting from Fall Brawl 93" is dodgy. Blackreign was just an example, i know he wouldn't fit into CS, i was just saying in theory if Jakks wanted to make a Blackreign in TNA classics, they could. Any superstar NOT under current WWE contract whose name or character/attire isn't a WWE trademark, they can potentially sign to a deal and make. I don't know how far copyright goes in terms of specific attires though, but I doubt it would cause any huge problems for most stars, and I'm sure very-similar alternatives could be found in the event of concern.

The easiest way to do this is, CS under TNA logo: series 1 Mad Dog Vachon Gorgeous George Buddy Rose Nick Bockwinkle Sting-Surfer Randy Savage-pre WWE
series 2 Kevin Von Erich Roddy Piper-NWA John Tatum Hulk Hogan-AWA Paul Ellering Curt Hennig-AWA
This is an example not a real list!!!!!

WWE DOESN'T own the likeness to "anyone they have footage off". Where did you hear that garbage? Not sure if you were talking to me, but that's the point I was trying to make. I know that they don't own the likenesses. But others in the thread insist that they do. My question was, if they do own the likenesses, like others are saying, then why did Jakks even need to bother signing anyone to a contract? They wouldn't have had to if WWE owned their likenesses.

Someone could also consider doing Japanese and mexican wrestlers. Mil Mascaras, Muta, Rikidozan, Konnan, Madonna's Boyfriend, Chono, Japanese based American wretslers like Hogan Vader, Stan Hansen, etc.

Hey, maybe a Dingo Warrior or Blade Runners 2-pack? Anyone else think it's an idea? Karma +1 for you man.a Blade Runners pack would be effin awesome. one things for sure Vinnie doesnt own anything to do with Harlem Heat likeness wise.Stevie Ray owns all HH indicia-and im glad of it too. the only case where this wouyld be tricky is with the likes of Billy Gunn, they cant make Smokin Gunns or Outlaws attires because yeah they are Vinnies.just an example Im thrown out there. but Im sure there are ways around this too

If wwe owns the rights to the name "macho man randy savage" I'm sure that jakks will still sign him and sell him as randy savage or randy poffo or something. I don't think names will be an issue here.

I've said several times and I still stand by my decision as to when Jakks' CS line ends, so does my collecting. If Mattel does do a CS-style line I will 99% confident I will not collect it. I MAY pick up a few select ones, but not like I did with the CS line. Several people have made good points about current Jakks CS collectors switching over to Mattel CS line; a lot of hardcore Jakks CS collectors probably will not simply switch. I don't think the economy will be too much better in 2010 than it is today so extra money to buy Mattel CS figures will be low. Someone could also consider doing Japanese and mexican wrestlers. Mil Mascaras, Muta, Rikidozan, Konnan, Madonna's Boyfriend, Chono, Japanese based American wretslers like Hogan Vader, Stan Hansen, etc. ^ Damn I'd love to see these guys made into the Jakks CS line.

I'm hoping Mattel continue with the classics line theres a huge adult market for these figures it would be stupid not to do the line to be honest. I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with in 2010.

there are a ton of more classic figures that could be made. if mattel had a brain in their head they would make classics. to me it is my favorite series as is the same with most collectors. the cs series is the best selling series currently. why wouldn't they make a cs line? lol

barrydarsow,
Great ideas. They have all already been discussed here in the past but still taking nothing away from you. I agree with you on all of those.

Part of company holdings are the names and look and gimmick, if Vince bought out those then it is clear he does own everything. Sting’s contract was with Time Warner, but I bet there was something in the contract about WCW owning everything about his gimmick. Macho Man had that name and costume before he was in the WWF, but did Vince copyright and Trademark it? If so then you have a two year legal battle, which will cost Jakks more than it would be worth to them. Owning WCW, AWA, and part of the NWA has its perks.
