In the original it wasn't as awkwardly intimate. I havent seen the original in about 13 years or so. But I grew up on that movie and several other great movies like mighty joe young, the 7th voyage of sinbad, and jason and the argonuats. I loved peter jackson's remake though, I thought it was very well done and I dont really get an akward vibe when I watch the movie either. You and me both. I found King Kong to be a successful remake using modern technology. Although I do think the re-edited Director's Cut was probably overkill.

yea b/c changing the plot of the original would have been smart... Um...have you seen the original? Ann Darrow is scared for her life right up until the moment Kong hits the pavement. There's none of this "he's just being gentle, don't kill him" stuff. At ALL. That all started with that God-awful 1976 Jeff Bridges and Jessica Lange movie. If anyone changed the plot of the original in this case, it would have been Peter Jackson. As for these knock-off movies, yeah I see these at Blockbuster all the time. Some of them are worth gathering a group up and watching how horribly bad they are. Fun times!
