My friend has played for years, self taught. It really interested me, so I wanted to play. I have been playing for around 2 years now, basically self taught.

About late last year I actually tried to learn to play. I'm taking lessons right now, but I also just look up tabs to play.

I started playing for real last year (I tried when I was 13 but it was more of a toy then an artistic output for me at the time) and the reason was since I was in an Apartment I couldn't play my drumkit. So after watching tons and tons of KISS I got inspired to start with guitar again and now it's fun as hell! After doing much research and reading interviews with my favorite guitar players I decided on getting a Squier Fat Strat in Silver with a Drive 30 Watt Amp and the rest is basically history.
I still play my Silver Fat Strat by Squier the most often (even though I have 2 Dean's and an LTD.) so I suggest you start off with something like that. Also another suggestion from me to you is to make sure you REALLY love the instrument. Because if you don't it's not gonna be something you wanna stick with then and that'll be just a shame.

KISS inspired you to play guitar? thats....interesting. anyway, i've been playing about 3 months, i taught myself using tabs, but i sucked at music theory, i couldn't even understand the "beats" that a note gets until i took lessons, i have been taking lessons for about 2 weeks. i recommend you learn to read TAB, and get 1 or 2 songs under your belt, and get comfortable with the guitar, then go get lessons

I've been playing for almost 5 years. At the moment I have a Marshall AVT 100 and a Jackson RR3 & a white Epiphone LP Custom with a Boss ME-50 multi effects pedal. I started off with a strat pack with amp and I sold the amp about a year later but I still got my strat.

I started when I was 13 and got a 12th grader form my school to teach me, He was cool, and he was really good. Then he left and I started to play alone, but I haven't really learnt anything new since.

KISS inspired you to play guitar? thats....interesting. ALOT of people say that to me but yeah it was a combination of Ace Frehely and and Vinnie Vincent that made me wanna try it again and then alot of Eric Clapton sealed the deal for me.

I've been playing about 2 1/2 years and am self taught. I had an old guitar my dad got for me as a kid and when I saw Some Kind of Monster I decided to pick it up.

I've been playing for just over a year.
I started getting interested in guitar when I saw how Rivers Cuomo plays live in Weezer. I loved and still do love how he played when he was younger, and how his Fender Stratocasters use to sound. He was good with a Les Paul, but in 2005 he played a Gibson SG which I disliked the sound off.
I am happy with how far I've come, seeing as I am self taught. I know it may not be a huge thing to experienced players, but I am happy with the fact that I know where every note on the fret board is. It's really helped me understand why and how chords sounds the way they do, and how to add notes and remove notes to make different chords. It's also been a big help to learning scales, as well as keys.
Jimi Hendrix and Joe Satriani keep me wanting to keep getting better, and be the best that I can be. Every time I watch them I feel as if I have learned something new.

I started out with bass over a year ago and just less that a year ago I decided I wanted to play guitar as well. I basically teach myself how to play my guitar. I just play straightforward songs like stuff from Nirvana and KISS.

Anyway I've got a squier telecaster custom, its a lovely thing I know exactly what you mean. But what i do to get back into it is go to youtube and watch some Guitar solos. Then go try and play them and fail miserably lol. Ive been playing for a year now. I started cause i saw some of my friends playing in a basement somewhere and i was immediately like "oh my god, i need to learn one of these". So i can play drums, bass, and guitar.

Hell he was buried in a Kiss coffin that Eddie V placed one of his famous guitars into at the memorial service. Been playing bass about 6 years, self taught.
