Yeah... So now my dad is thinking about getting a Zune for himself. Are these things any good? And anyone know how the wi-fi works?

Yes. The new ones are a step up, but even the first gens are great. I just recently got the 30 GB brown model, for about $100. In my opinion, it kills the ipod in any aspect, just based on the interface and options alone. And it does a great job of doing what it supposed to do...play mp3's. Ive heard some complaints about the software, but myself, have not had any. Its very easy to use and simple. The only pain for me was retagging my very extensive mp3 collection so it got properly organized. But it was worth it.
Id say any Zune is very worth it any way you look at it.

They updated the software (I'm talking a total overhaul) and it's much better than it was before. It's nowhere near as clunky and it's super clean and bright. I love what they've done with it. I'd still rather have the option of adding music through Windows Explorer, but at least they've improved on it.
I can't comment on the wi-fi feature very much. In all honesty unless you know people with a Zune and you have the same taste in things, it's kind of worthless since it's just local. You can send full albums to people though - the catch is they can only play it 3 or so times. My friend and I share stuff once in awhile (no video sharing yet to my knowledge), so it definitely has it's use albeit limited.
As I always says in Zune threads, make sure you power it down and not just put it in sleep mode. The battery drains like crazy if wi-fi mode is left on and if it isn't powered down all the way. Aside from some strange organization issues I've had it's a very solid media player.

One thing to make sure, is if he can, get any of the new models. They have much better battery life than the click-pad oldies.

My friend loves his and he's picky about everything, so yeah, I suppose it's good.

I am getting one for Christmas. It was either that or the touch, and the Zune just appeals more to me and sounds like a better product. And for the price, you can't go wrong.

So..... do you need to puchase songs thru the Microsoft Online Store... or can you download any MP3's you have stored on your CPU onto it?

Yep. I only buy physical copies of albums so I don't use the marketplace at all. When I switched from using Itunes to Zune, all the files were in MP3 format and they all got transferred over to the Zune.

The one thing I really like about the Zune Marketplace is if you have a 360, and you use the same account for Zune Marketplace and Xbox Live, you can share Microsoft points.

I just picked up a Zune 80 today as a Christmas gift for myself.
How do I get MY stuff into the "My collection" section of the Zune software? I figured out the music, I think, but alot of my hockey videos won't show up.

I wanted to switch some stuff, so I deleted all the videos from "My collection", and they left the Zune too. "Ok, thats probably because of the "synching" between the PC and the Zune." But now I can't get the videos into "My collection" anymore.
