I'm not sure where the original poster is from, but I believe the national minimum wage is still like $5.25. Which is balls.

I already have a full-time job where I make decent money. So the pay in this one really isnt a #1 concern.

And usually when you ask what the pay is at a job interview, it hurts your chances of getting the job.

If you're a stocker you really can't keep things to yourself, everything has to go on the shelves. The closest thing you can do is simply hide the new items at random locations in the store and come in the next day as a customer and pick up the items you hid. I never did that or plan to do it because A) It's downright dispicable and greedy B) The cameras are always watching you and C) I buy most of my things online.

Well, I've been at toysrus for alittle over a year. I started out as a seasonal employee last year and am now a Department Supervisor. The boys section is one of my departments if any cared.

If you show you're above the rest of the seasonal employees and have a good availability, you have a good chance of staying.

I honestly can't comlain about the job, I've met alot of great people. Yeah, the hours are long, but it is a job. I'm working between 50-60 hrs a week right now. Today I had an 11 hr day, and we had a visit from corporate management. It always feels good to know you're doing a good job.

As far as getting "dibs" on figures, if you know the right people you can get anything. It's funny though, once I started working there I lost all my passion for wrestling and the action figures aswell.

But yeah, if you're looking just for a seasonal job it's not too bad, the pay may not be great starting, but it's retail.

That's absolutly 100% true. Also, a lot of the extra employees hired this time of year don't give a crap about actually working and are a pain in the ass to be around.

Luckily, I never had to work a black Friday when I worked retail though.

Yeah after tomorrow if they tell me my schedule for the week or whatever im gonna have to let them know. I feel so bad because I dont wanna be that worker that immediately starts taking off. At my current job I never even called in sick once. Only one time they had to send me home because I was sick, but i still showed.

Thanks though, hearing it shouldnt be a problem actually eases the thought lol

If it's anything like Target orientation, they'll teach you about what your job entails (cleaning up at night, stocking shelves, how to deal with customers, etc) and any special procedures that you might have to do, like getting something from the backroom, or answering the phone, or any number of things. If you can access the internet, it will all be common sense to you.

However, you'll be surprised at how many people can't figure out how to do something as simple as put an item on a peg.

Well everything was easy. Had to fill out a bunch of forms and watch videos. Then they trained me at the cash register for about 2 hours. It was soooo busy because of "Door Buster" sales. So everyone was a little upset they decided to train us today on such a busy day. Everything seems easy. Learning all the procedures at the cash register took some time and i got the hang of it, still some stuff i dont know. But it was a decent first day. Some of the other trainee's were pretty bad. One kid was sweating like a pig from basically walking around and making sure the isles looked neat.

Just wait. You think those bad workers will eventually get the hang of things, and some will, but be prepared to be amazed that someone can work on a register for like 2 weeks straight and still not remember how to do things properly from transaction to transaction.

If it weren't for other people existing, work wouldn't be so bad.

haha, yeah i cant wait to see how they turn out. If I had trouble on the register, i know these other trainees will DEFINITELY struggle. If your breaking a sweat and complaining about working the floor for 1 hour, you arent gonna like the register. Let alone learning it.

I dont know where in the world you heard that. The issue of pay always comes up in interviews.
In your case its not exactly negotiable, but even so normal protocol is for them to tell you what you are going to make before you sign on. I was a hiring manager for radio shack through 2 xmas's.
