The value is still the same for me. I look at my collection and it still brings back memories of watching wrestling with my father which puts a smile on my face. It used to be any wrestlers figures from the mid 70βs up to March β90 would do that. But now even the more modern wrestlers in my collection who I never got to watch with my father still make me think of fond memories of watching wrestling with him. So yeah the real value is still there to me. This is a perfect answer. The value is what you make it, not what the secondary market makes it. Figures that bring back fond memories are priceless as far as I'm concerned.

If youβre in this game to get rich, youβre in the wrong hobby. Mattel has done smart business with the upgrade of scans and articulation, so Iβm stoked when they re release some old stuff with modern tech. Iβve sold a couple at high dollar when times were tough but I donβt rely on my hoard to pay my bills.

If you want wrestling figures with value go collect MOC Hasbros or hell if you want something modern it looks like the Big Rubber Guys are already gaining traction.
A modern mass produced toy line isnβt what youβre apparently wanting.

If you plan to retire on your figures, you need to do it today. Tomorrow it will be too late. Time on the pegs > timing on the pegs. This is not fignancial advice. I like the figs. We like the stonk!

With re-releases pretty much killing any value we had in our collections I was wondering which figures are left that are likely to retain value going forward. The likes of Demolition, LOD, Wolfpac Sting and more are still costly but I think the following are all that is left that will continue to hold value the longer the line continues. I do believe the New gen ultimates and Eric Bischoff will join this list but not including unrealesed figures I was looking at my collection and could only list these guys. Akeem Bundy Snuka Kerry Von Erich Kevin Von Erich Texas Tornado Rick Martel Road Warriors I hope they are never re-released, I could care less for others not having them (you missed out) it's what makes them special to me the fact they are sought after! Do fellow collectors feel there are any other figures safe from re-release that will retain that special feel of owning a figure? If you died tomorrow what would your family do with the collection? Its gonna get tossed or sold for a fraction of what you paid. If you decided to sell the collection tomorrow how much do you really think you will profit and what would you spend the money on? Once its spent its spent regardless. Modern day toys have no long term value because of production numbers and high retail costs. Even the exclusives and short run figures that hold this βgrail valueβ balances out all the devalued figures we have. Bottom line, just have fun collecting and focus less on βvaluesβ This is it. Having collected for x number of years i can agree with all that. There are very few toy collections that will retain their value. The ones that do contain very limited pieces and very few lines are made in small quantities these days (unlike modern basketball card parralels). Lets take a look at all modern toy lines (late 90s-now) (not counting mini figures or 12" dolls). Value is based on sealed/mint prices Pick one of the 100s of manufacturers and look at prices. (Hint unless you have some of the exceptions the majority of the lines made by these companies are WORTHLESS) www.figurerealm.com/actionfigure?action=manlistHasbro -Star wars - potf/potj/sote/ep1-ep3 Few pieces worth anything (double value at best) personally dont see 2digits = worth value. Some mid 2000 legend multipacks and exclusives but star wars suffers from fatigue (too much for too long), this line needed to die to retain value, vintage collection is different however... ______________ -Spawn - worthless (same value) -Marvel legends - minimal value (3-4x value)d ) Playmates -The tick (forgotten, small line)) -Earthworm jim (forgotten, small line)) -Star trek (less value) - overproduce -Simpsons (3x value if not counting inflation, meaning if these were made today they would retail for 15$ (currect aftermarket price of their 5$ original value). In lamens worth the same. Same can be said for any playmates line. -Independence day movie (will smith)(forgotten) -Etc etc etc infinity (check list for the reat of the toy lines β------------ Now exceptions: -Palisades muppets (10x value for later series figures and some exclusives) -palisades pink panther -spy vs spy (6x value) -Mars attacks (big following, cult movie) Playmates: a select few (most are not deep (only q-2 series max)) like exo squad/skeleton warriors. Majority has no interest anymore to anyone. www.figurerealm.com/actionfigure?action=manserieslist&id=501-lord of the rings (cult following) -power rangers - every kid opened them and very few adults collected these mass produced figures -early marvel legends series -some modern tmnt (early series new cartoon series) 80s rereleases (obviously being mass produced on purpose to give people the chance to own near originals with or without added points of articulation)., some exceptions will exist in the future (dinosaucers/dinoriders if they ever get re-released) ---- I believe the whole grading scam system will implode one day so for anyone who argues that you can take any figure boxed or not, grade it and you have instant value ---> you have to realize that only 1-2% of modern day toys get graded and ever will so it is a fake way of creating scarcity. 90% of all collections are private so the actual amount of any figure is not known for many years. There are still thousands of every figure out there just waiting to be sold by estate sale finders. This idea that they are 1/1 graded 10 is all a bunch of bs (speaking of modern day toy lines only) So yeah open these up. If you want to invest there is the stock market. You were sadly influenced by all the toy collector tv programs in the early 2000 who thought modern day toys would be worth the same as vintage toy lines. Sadly many people have lost tens of thousands this way. The same will happen to the new modern day basketball/pokemon card industry. When the high rollers stop buying the whole house of cards will come tumbling down. These wwe figures with few exceptions (yes everyone wants the yellow vested akeem/lod/etc ) are WORTHLESS AND MADE TO BE PLAYED/POSED with. If u are reading this: dont believe these youtube influencers (they are just trying to hype people up, they are only thinking short term). For something to be worth money someone has to be interested in it in the future. How many 6 million dollar man collectors will there be in 20 years. It is the same reason people dont collect marbles anymore. Interests change and now adays if it isnt an app or a game on their phone = no interest.

The only figures I've sold that seemed to have gone up in value substantially were the Storm Collectibles video game characters and MOTU Classics.

Even the rarest figure doesn't have "value" unless you sell it. Until you do sell it, it has negative "value." Moneywise, of course.

The money is in the quick flip. That actually pays for most of my collection. I will usually buy what I want for my collection and if I come across another figure that I can move fast and make some cash on, I will. Some of you like to call it scalping. I like to call it supporting my collection.

They are little plastic renderings of muscular men in basically underwear and boots (and sometimes not even that) if you want to play stockbroker, play the stockmarket...not buy toys...as someone who has collected this line for nearly 15 years...I say "BRING ON THE RERELEASES!" I don't give a .

Go buy the S&P500 if you want your money to grow.
There has been such an unbelievable surge in people who believe collecting toys is somehow a good long-term investment. They see news stories of Star Wars carded figures from the 80s selling for tens of thousands of dollars, and they still remember the recent days of the pandemic where everyone was locked up and had tons of money to burn on non-essentials.
If you are into the figure game to make money, reconsider.
I will not lie, there are plenty of figures I buy for "value" -- not really things I want or love, but I find things on a good deal and then store them away immediately. But I don't think I'm going to retire or pay off my house on that income. I am hoping my swing on a $8 clearance Legends figure can maybe turn into a profit in a few years.

While I have bought for value, it's not a priority.
For example, I have a couple of RSC Wolfpac Stings but if he were to be made again I would happily buy two

I think people are a little harsh on collectors who buy for value. Any hobby that involves collecting things attracts people who buy and sell for profit, and a lot of collectors like having items that are βrareβ just through merit of it being rare
But people who do that canβt take priority over newcomers in terms of maintaining the health of the line. This line is like 15 years old now. A lot of people buying them werenβt even born when it launched. Thereβs no harm in remaking or revisiting older figures.

I don't buy these things expecting them to be like Apple stock investments... if anything this hobby is putting me into the poor house more than anything else. But, I suppose if you are worried about these things "holding value"..... Get 'em signed, boys..... get 'em signed while you can. Catch is, I could never sell these. What are you doing in my house?
