Forgive me for asking as I’m sure it’s out there already but with the heads now made to be removed, do basic heads fit on elites?

I've never had a major issue....
Sometimes the ball-connector on some of the older figures seem to be larger.... and sometimes you'll get the "no neck" syndrome, but that seems to go equally for Elite-to-Elite swaps too.... sometimes it just doesn't look right but I don't think it's because they're Basic/Elite. It's just a figure-to-figure thing. Sometimes they just don't match up well. But for the most part I haven't had too many problems with this.
I'm sure the group will correct me if I'm wrong here.

Yeah they work. you just have to heat them first

It’s always worked for me. But sometimes the neck height can make it look off

ive never really had issues with swapping between basics and elites. even back in the day when heating them was a necessity.

I'm by no means a Basics expert, but I've dabbled in the newer ones and the heads seem to pop right off, just like Elites.
I bought the two-pack Bulldog just for this. Popped the head on the Greatest Hits Legends version. Looks way better than that old 2010 head.

All Mattel WWE heads are interchangeable, but the holes and pegs are sometimes at different levels so you may have to adjust the height if they look like a giraffe or like they have no neck.

This, although if you are messing with the older figures, you have to heat the figures up to swap the heads. Make sure to heat them well. I usually shove the heads in freshly boiled water for a water and gently twist and pull. If you don't heat those old heads up enough, you can snap the neck peg, or worse, break the torso where the neck is. Then you're just boned.
