So I bought an old tv with a VCR built in a couple of weeks ago and since then buying VHS tapes has been my hyper focus. Mainly sticking with horror, sci-fi, and pro wrestling. Anyone still into but vhs tapes? My collection so far:

I've been outta the VHS scene for a good over 10 yrs since converting my whole wrestling collection to DVD(Took forever but worth it) But I'll tell ya to this day seeing a VHS tape at a flea market/garage sale still brings me so much nostalgia. Many great memories and yes some bad ones with my VCR eating the film Nice collection here btw

I got sick of streaming in 2019 and how whenever I wanted to watch something no services offered it. I began amassing a physical media library after that.
BluRay, DVD and VHS are what I collect. I don't have any genre prerequisites but I do instantly buy something if I have memories of seeing it on the shelf in my local video store back in the day.
Some things hit different on VHS. A lot of that stuff back then was made with the limitations in mind so I find it's ruined.in 4K hi-def versions.

Sick.
I got rid of most of mine but still have a few. Friday the 13th which I signed my name on the back of when I was 9 (I turned out fine 🙄), Batman 89 and Child's Play.
Been wanting to get Friday the 13th parts 2-X and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2. Will probably get on that soon.

a few of my buddies do this and I’ve been strongly thinking of following suit. the coliseum videos especially interest me
some people on Etsy have made bootleg dvds of complete years of wcw, smoky mountain, raw etc. they’re interesting too. although I guess illegal and probably best not spoken of lol

Physical media> streaming all day long I do think that the Criterion Channel is a worthwhile streaming service. Lots of hard to find stuff and classics. I think it's a bit pricier than most but it's great to be able to sit down and watch Heavens Gate or Solaris. In The Mouth of Madness is a decent find right there.

I got lucky and linked up with a guy that runs a shop and he has 100s of vhs. I asked for John Carpenter and he had that and the Fog waiting for me today for $4 a piece.

I buy VHS tapes occasionally at thrift stores. I collect obscure educational and instructional tapes.

Oh definitely. I'm the same with getting the horror movies I like. I have all the Fridays and Halloweens, Freddy, Chainsaws, Return of the Living Dead's, all the Romeros, The Sleepaway Camps. And I have almost all of the Coliseum Video clamshell and NWA clamshell cases, I don't really collect the tapes that are in sleeves, although I do have a lot, but the clamshells just remind me of when I was a kid in the video store. I'm only missing a couple of the later "Best Of" tapes, they go for a lot on Ebay. I also collect all the Roddy Piper VHS releases. I have all the movies and TV shows and wrestling tapes minus a couple of the WCW releases. I also collect the VHS of my favorite actors such a Kurt Russell, Michael Madsen, Rudy Ray Moore. I have the first 5 seasons of "The Simpsons" I taped off of the TV along with the original airing of the mini-series "V" and "V - The Final Battle" with commercials, just a lot of stuff. And so many bins of wrestling that I recorded and tape traded that I don't even know what I have. LOL
I have three VCRs that are in great shape and a nice tv to watch them on. Yeah, people can have their dvds and whatnot but there isn't anything better than popping that VHS tape into the machine. LOL

What do you think it is about horror?
I see a lot of horror fans love VHS but you never get that with action or drama fans.

Outside Disney and Nickelodeon, horror vhs were the most prominent on my parents shelves when I was young. They loved it and it passed on to me. I think the poor picture makes a lot of horror work better too.
