With alot of debate going for years about Bret Hart's head scan; bad or good. I thought I should make a thread to try for us to pin point which part of the head scan needs to be reworked or kept as is.
So we can discuss here what changes or parts of the head you'd like to keep when it comes to Bret Hart. Or even which part of the head you think needs better work like, the eyes, nose, jaw line ect ect

Not only are the sculpts bad, but the way they have the chunks of hair in front of the face makes it look even worse. I’ve given up hope that we’ll get a good sculpt.
Maybe they could try a sculpt with the glasses molded on and THIN strands of hair sculpted on the glasses/face

I display my Hart Foundation characters with their glasses on so I’m not bothered by the head scan.
But to answer your question, it’s the eyes. Get the eyes correct.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought they used some sort of "scan" technology to get these faces.... I was blown away by some of the Hall & Nash "scans" - they look spot-on. There are many others that are damn near perfect; Did Bret have some sort of objection to being scanned? Does anyone know how they do it? Do they actually put the talent in a device and scan their heads? Or do they take a promo photo and "scan" it into their software? I think this Monday Night Wars Ultimate one is okay, at least when he's wearing glasses... far from perfect.... I don't actually own this figure - - - but I always felt it was the BEST representation of Bret's head/face that we've seen. Not sure why they didn't use it more? Perhaps I'm in the minority on this?

One issue is that his heads have too many wrinkles/too much definition, especially on his golden era figures. Photos show he had soft, non-defined facial features back then but Mattel makes him look like he's much older.
Another thing that could be an issue is that Bret wrestles with his mouth open, no teeth showing (I've always thought it looked funny). Perhaps his real facial expressions are hard to replicate in toy form?

I never really thought Bret’s sculpts are as bad as most y’all make it out to be. Are they spot on? Of course not. Are some worse than others? Sure. But for the most part, they look fine to me. Especially with the sunglasses on.

I personally think a couple of things attribute to the lack of good likeness. I think some of the Bret headscans look okay, but either have goofy expressions or something that makes it look slightly off. For instance, the latest MNW Bret looks like he’s 50 years old. A lot of the older Bret scans have those oddly shaped hair strands that look like dreads. My favorite sculpt was the straight faced scan from the Target exclusive. I feel like the hair is slightly too long and the chin/jaw looks a bit too round, but the facial features are there. Some people here made a fixup with the first UE Bret’s straight faced scan and swapped the MNW’s hair, which was imo really nice looking. Here’s how I would go on about it if I were Mattel. Just sculpt the damn hair strands like Jakks did… I don’t think molding it in rubber is going to work, they tried time and time again and it hasn’t looked good. Give Bret less wrinkles and give him a more defined jawline. I think Jakk’s Bret sculpts were pretty decent with the first classics being one of my favorites.

Flair Forever that Hall scan is one of Mattel’s finest garbage scans to be honest. A lot of us thought he looked like Ken from Barbie. I think the last Bret scan you showed was also one of my least favorites as well. I could kind of see the resemblance, but he looks more like Smiggle from lord of the rings. Now, in terms of that Nash scan, it’s one of my favorites and I hope Mattel reuses it at some point.

Ok....
I've always liked the Legends Scott Hall figure. It's one of my favorites. It sits prominently on my shelf and I do like the figure.
When I posted the pic, I did notice the facial likeness isn't as good as I remembered; So I wondered if it was just the pic, the angle, the lighting, etc.
Or..... maybe it's time to get my eyes checked. I'm not sure.
I stand by the last Bret Hart figure pic, I still think it's one of the better Bret Hart likenesses they've done.

Put a pair of sunglasses on that Hall and it’s easily the best likeness they’ve done of him.

It would be cool if someone can put a collage of Bret's head scans through out the years. Maybe we can identify people thoughts in the head scans. (I don't know how to add pictures)
I thought the Wrestlemania 30 figure had a good head scan, even though people disagree with me on that.

Put a pair of sunglasses on that Hall and it’s easily the best likeness they’ve done of him. If a headscan needs covering up with accessories to "look good", then it's not a good likeness. The brain is just imagining the obscured areas are better than they are. Reminds me of Mattel's first couple of Randy Savage headscans they did, looking beyond the trademark hat/bandanna, the stylized sunglasses, perhaps even that signature moppy hairstyle, those headscans bear very little facial resemblance to the man. Just looks like a random dude with a beard wearing Macho Man's gear. Thankfully they did a few other headscans that were somewhat better (though personally I still don't feel they ever quite nailed Macho's likeness). Anyway to get back on topic, I can certainly see that Bret's likeness has been hard for toy companies to capture, but there's still a decent amount to choose from IMO, and honestly I think there's a lot of other Legends who need/deserve a new headscan way more than Bret.

Well to each his own, whatever makes you happy. Personally I think the Ultimate snarling head is the best Hall likeness. Whatever people's personal opinions on individual heads, likenesses, expressions, I think we can all agree it's nice to have a choice, unfortunately there are still many Legends that don't have multiple headscans released yet. And guys like DDP who only ever seem to get one expression (smiling).

I think some guys just scan better than others. Kind of like how some famous people are gifts to cartoonists, while others many struggle to get right. Exaggerated features seem to translate well, while "regular guys" don't always.
I always thought that The Rock and HHH always had decent to great headscans even going back to the Jakks TTL days.
I don't know what the answer is for Bret.

They look fine to me except for his Defining Moments figure which suffers from small head syndrome like all early Mattels did.
