Powertown is better off staying independent. They can sign the wreslers that want more open ended deals. Wwe/mattel is too inclusive. I believe powertown will become the "4 horsemen" of the industry and pump out the best figures we have seen made to date. I do hope they stay in scale with jakks and mattel however... The Four Horsemen are the Four Horsemen of the industry and have been since the early 2000’s when they started working on the MoTU and DCSH lines for Mattel. That comment seems more like hes referring specifically to their Mythic Legions line to me. They actually go back to the mid-90s doing work for Mcfarlane. A lot of those really detailed sculpts that came out back then were theirs.

Before I got injured and moved to NY I used to see Cornboy regularly at our local comic shop (Funny Books)

Perhaps Matty can help the distribution and costs with the TNA line now. They will still technically be Powertown figs, but loan them some rendering and molds, rent them some space on cargo freighters and retail shelves, send MDT and Steve down on an excursion. But ya know, still their own separate independent venture.
Until it's not.

If WWE (of all promotions) can open the forbidden door then anything is possible!

But ya know, still their own separate independent venture. Until it's not. The closest thing that could happen is WWE paying TNA for the ability to make figures of TNA looks of talent WWE has access to. It would open the doors for a ton of new looks for guys like AJ, Cody, Kurt, Nash, Steiner, Booker, B.G James, Ron Killings, Dusty, Shamrock, Lashley, Drew, Consequences Creed, Punk, RVD, Team 3D, Robert Roode, and more. TNA also owns the rights to a lot of their own characters like Abyss so those could also be a possibility. Not to mention all the people who could be signed to legends deals in the future like Raven, Jarrett, Sting or the Hardys. Powertown doesn't make enough of each figure for a retail release and even if they did I doubt WWE would want them using their shelf space.

I actually did some artwork for the Mythic Legions line several years back and Cornboy was my point of contact for the project so there was quite a few back & forth emails with him.

Also the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Bill and Steve are both huge wrestling fans, and that shows in the product. Don't assume another company would be as inclined to put passionate fans on the line. Watching some of the Hasbro panels is rough - it's clear the team working on some lines couldn't care less about the IP. This should be the WFigs version of a 'basic b***h' tattoo on the ribcage

Yeah I guess it’s considered northern NJ. The comic store was in lake Hiawatha NJ. Their studio was in or near Butler NJ.

I feel like we just had this discussion several weeks ago.... with the guy who insisted that talent doesn't have to to have a WWE "Legends Deal" and even Steve "Action Figure Attack" himself chimed in to say that they DO need a WWE deal, and the guy didn't even believe Steve of all people.... Mattel can't just slap the WWE brand on any old wrestler - I'm not sure how JAKKS was doing it, but Cancel Culture wasn't a "thing" back then (not to the extent that it is today) and there is absolutely no doubt that WWE would not allow Mattel to sign random wrestles and produce their figures with the WWE brand attached. Can you imagine if Mattel tried to market a Snuka or a Benoit WWE Legends figure that wasn't approved by WWE? WWE would cancel Mattel's contract so fast our heads would spin. WWE chooses which Legends to keep under contract, and on the flip side, some talent would rather not do business with WWE, for various reasons. The Owen Hart estate is one example. Are we suggesting that Mattel create a Non-WWE line and sign their own talent (guys like Von Erich, Hansen, Missing Link)? I really doubt Mattel would have any interest in that when they already have the most lucrative wrestling brand in the world, WWE, in their portfolio. You're asking McDonald's to start selling Whoppers...... because, well, some people like Whoppers. Your first paragraph is exactly why I said this should be common knowledge at this point. Every couple of weeks a new person comes along and asks the same question that we’ve answered to death at this point. And like you said, even Steve chimed in to finish it off once and for all… or at least for two weeks. See you all in another two weeks when another person asks the same million-dollar question. And there we have it..... right on schedule. Hey Steve, was just wondering if there was a chance that Mattel as a company could look for talent to make figures of outside of legends contracts. From what I understand that was what happened when Mattel first got WWE and that's why we got so many of those deep cut figures we haven't seen since.

We've beat this to death. If WWE were interested in these wrestlers, they'd certainly be signed. They aren't, Mattel is content working from talent signed to WWE deals, and both companies make more money from that arrangement. It's as simple as that, whether collectors like it or not. You say this and then I look at your icon picture and it hurts even more.

I feel like we just had this discussion several weeks ago.... We've had this discussion multiple times, in fact we have it multiple times every year, especially around SDCC. Are you ready for the coming soon SDCC sh*tshow on this board?

LOD 2000 are literally my top dream figures, and Bill said that would have been the next version if they were still under contract. That totally twisted the knife. But the situation is what it is. This has been the arrangement for something like 7 years, with multiple contract re-negotiations in that time.

Pretty sure WWE is choosing that Mattel cannot sign outside talent. 2K signs outside wrestlers so I think it’s a Mattel choice Also they had the option at the start and I don’t think they lost the right to do it, I just think they were losing money on it and didn’t see the need to when they had a built-in roster to work with from WWE It was WWE's decision that Mattel could not sign outside talent, not Mattel's I don't play video games so could someone tell me what outside wrestlers have been signed by 2K? I just did a quick google search for the 2K24, 2K23, 2K22, and 2K20 rosters and besides Post Malone and Bad Bunny, who are celebrities and fall under a completely different category, I'm not seeing any outside wrestling talent who doesn't have some sort of merch deal with WWE.

I don't think you will find any WWE licensed products in the past 6 years where WWE has allowed their licensing partners to sign outside talent. WWE changed all the deals to give them total control over who represents the WWE brand.

I don't play video games so could someone tell me what outside wrestlers have been signed by 2K? Possibly Eve Torres, Michelle McCool and Macho Man, but they might all be under general WWE merchandising contracts.

If anyone thought they'd make more money signing talent independently, I guarantee you it would be different. It appears that Panini may in fact have been independently signing talent for autographs to get cheaper filler content.
