Can anyone name a better collector friendly line than Legends? Preorders go up with ample time for mostly everyone to get. Preorders are typically always fulfilled. After release everything is available online. Plenty of stock in stores. Maybe the first wave sells out but they are quick to restock. Chases are not that difficult to obtain. If you’re patient there’s usually a sale after a few weeks marking them down 20-40% off. In roughly 3 months the current wave is gone and replaced with the next wave. I’d say the biggest hiccup is that maybe they’re released a bit early and they’re registered locked until a specific date. While it can be frustrating, isn’t really that big of a deal.

Target had hiccups when it started this line, but everything has been smoothed out. As a collector it’s nice to not have to bother worrying if you’ll ever get or even see product.

Notable mentions: Mr. Perfect GH British Bulldog/Terry Funk Iron Sheik Sultan Jake the Snake

I agree that it's the best, BUT, I think we can all semi-agree they need to start getting newer old talent in the line.

I think they’ve done a good job mixing in new talent or talent we haven’t seen a lot of. In this line we’ve gotten plenty of first time in the line or first time in a while or completely different gimmicks of familiar faces: Valentine Orndorff Volkoff Tatanka Vader DDP Beefcake Studd JYD Orton Hurricane Mark Callous Keibler Luger Acolytes Molly Holly WCW Styles Shamrock Headshrinkers Paul E Brother Love D’Lo Kama Captain Lou Sultan

The ones we've never had (Barbarian, Herc, Koko, Haku, etc the list that gets mentioned all the time) and others that just had their last fig almost 12-14 years ago (Demolition, LOD, Martel, Bundy, Gang). I give them kudos for Brother Love, Captain Lou and Valentine because those are Legends we never had before but some of the others ones had figs before (and recently).

Given that they’ve had the license going on a decade and a half and made every major Superstar sans a handful of big names plus the limitations of only being able to produce talent that are signed with WWE I think they’ve done an excellent job of keeping this line fresh.

I still think the Jakks Classic Series was fantastic - loved the packaging, it stayed consistent through the whole line, and the variety of names/stars JAKKS did with that line.
I think Mattel Legends is probably on-track to exceed JAKKS Classics..... but they're not there yet.
But I am a big fan/collector of both lines.

Could every figure in that line be as easily obtainable as Legends? I didn’t collect this line but weren’t there a few impossible to find figures, not to mention extremely limited exclusives?

I wish at this point they were able to make side deals like Jakks was able to with Classic Superstars. That would change the whole ballgame, but I get how they are hamstrung by WWE and their decision making. I don't know if going from vendetta Vince, who held grudges forever, to TKO, who weren't involved in any of the legendary moments of the 80's-2010's, is a good or bad thing.

Near the end of the JAKKS contract there were a few waves that were hard to find. But usually, between Toys R Us, and KB Toys, I was able to get everything I wanted. Often on a discount. They did do a few weird exclusive very (very) limited things, like "1/10" Ultimate Warriors and Ric Flairs. I've always cherry-picked and just buy the figures that I want, I'm not a completist, so it didn't terribly bother me that a few items were not obtainable. Well, except that "Employee Exclusive Ric Flair".... that would have been nice to have.

It's by far the best and most reliable line that Mattel does. In 2024, it is giving us Captain Lou Albano, The Sultan, Rosey, Jamal, Who? and Big Bubba Rogers in terms of new "characters" so far. In 2023, it gave us Fatu and Samu, Paul E, Brother Love, and Kama Mustafa. In 2022, it gave us Bob Orton, Mark Callous, Stacy Keibler, and Molly Holly. I know there are a lot of re-used workers, but they are still new Characters which is really cool.
And the best part is I have NEVER had an issue finding a single one of them. Pre-orders go up on Target, I pre-order, they never get cancelled and they ship to my house as soon as they are available. And if you don't happen to pre-order, then they aren't too hard to find in stores. Compare that line to the other lines:
MNW: Can't pre-order them. Impossible to find in stores and the lineups are pretty mediocre From the Vault: Just a whole bunch of Re-releases on Ringside collectibles for their overpriced prices PPV BAF series: Kind of hard to find, and usually they have a wanted BAF along with at least 3 figures that nobody wants so you have to overpay to get one figure you like Main Line Elites: I never see these in stores anymore. Sometimes I'll get lucky with Amazon, but nowhere near as easy as the Legends series. The characters are very good but not as interesting as Legends.
Legends is by far the best line they have right now in terms of elites.

In terms of Characters, nothing will ever touch the Classic Superstars line. That was just unbelievable in terms of giving you characters. But boy oh boy were some of the figures awful looking *Andre the Giant in double straps *Classic Undertaker w/ no sleeves *Miniature head Yokozuna *Whatever the hell that Kane was in the 3 Pack haha *All the Managers like Bobby Heenan and Paul Bearer being taller than the Undertaker *Whatever the hell that head was on Jimmy Valiant *Having one Nasty boy with molded on sleeves and another sleeveless *Horrendous Outfit choice for the Godfather *Tiny Old school Bossman I'm sure there are more examples I can't think of. It's a GOAT series but man some of those figures were so poorly done.

It is by far my favourite line, but unfortunately here in Canada, we only get every 2nd or 3rd set. It seems to be completely random. They always sell out (except for the time we got dozens of Series 12 Roddy Pipers), so I’m not sure why we don’t get every set.

Jakks Classic Superstars were great for their time but they didnt really age well. The balloon heads. Oversized arms. Lazy/half assed parts choices....Sure they dove deeper into the well getting us guys like Johnny Rodz or Spark Plug Holly.....but I think the vast majority of us would trade names like Rodz or figures that came out looking like the Big Bossman did for Kerry Von Erich, Ricky Steamboat and a properly scaled Bossman.
As for exclusives....I much prefer the availability of what Mattel is doing. There were some great exclusives that Jakks did but Jeremy was too concerned trying to create something for the deep pockets collectors for the secondary market and not the hardcore collectors.

The Legends line has it all - deep cuts, FTIL releases, while hitting just about every big name Mattel has available. The ease of finding them is really just icing on the cake.
Kudos to the Mattel team for finding a distribution structure that works for both the retailer and collectors.

I cherry pick, but I agree that the Mattel Legends is a great collection and easy to obtain, a win-win. But I would say the same for the Coliseum Collection. As an LJN enthusiast, the CC line is my favorite Mattel line ever. I just wish we’d get them more often!

I don't buy every Legends figure that comes out, but noticed that I have been completing sets for the last few series that came out. Even the figures I was on the fence about eventually went to clearance and I picked up anyway. It really is a great line, something for everybody.

Yeah mainly referring to the current state of the line but there were definitely issues in the beginning of the relaunch. Series 9 spotty distribution, especially DiBiase being extremely difficult to find. Series 10 Cena and Vader warming hard while Beefcake and DDP were online only but very hard to obtain. But series 11 onwards has been pretty much smooth sailing.
