I'm confused. Why would NBC put on a WCW special, if NBC Owns USA which had RAW? This is where Im confused...What pull does NBC have with TBS/TNT?

They wanted a special because of the NBA strikes & Bischoff wanted to give it to them. Lot of folks that were there said it was the motivation for huge changes.

It’s funny reading other forums how fans that weren’t even born when WCW got the ax are defending Kellner like he’s innocent in this whole thing. You can blame Bischoff, Russo, the talent, etc…all you want, but Nitro was still pulling in ratings that WWE and AEW would kill for today. The brand was still a popular name even in 2001 and Kellner sold them for pennys-on-the-dollar. Was WCW loosing money? Yeah, a lot of it, but nothing that couldn’t potentially be turned around with a more fiscally-minded exec in charge. Not saying Bischoff and his team would have been able to do that, but they never got the chance when Kellner pulled the plug on their TV time. People can say Kellner did what so many execs wants to do before him, but he’s the one that got to do it. Others like Bischoff, Russo, the talent, ect…may have helped lead to the companies downturn, but Kellner had the final say on everything at the end and ultimately killed WCW.
