Have they given a response as to why this figure was booted from the line? I figure it's because he is wrestling masked but not sure.

Rey when he saw his face would be unmasked on a figure:

I'm kind of wondering if they may release it elsewhere in another line or maybe upgrade it to an Ultimate.

We were so damn close. I really wanted a Rey from the night he unmasked after losing to Nash.

My guess would be more wwe than Rey. Rey has posted on his socials himself unmasked alot recently.

While I would love a Filthy Animals Rey, honestly I thought the likeness on the prototype we saw was rather mediocre, and I didn't want the molded-on horns either. So I'm hoping if they ever get another chance to do it, they'll improve the likeness and ditch the horns (or just have them on a second alternate head).
I would also guess that WWE was the one who put a hault to it, rather than Rey or Mattel.

it was a very strange choice from the get-go, IMO im not sure WWE have ever shown or mentioned Rey's face under the mask? Given all his looks in WCW? I was kind of surprised to see it too....I fully expected a repaint of the existing mold and that's what we ended up getting after the swerve.

I firmly believe at some point down the line, on the night Rey hangs up his boots, he will then publicly unmask (again) and it'll be hailed as this huge moment for him because WWE is so fully dedicated to pretending the Filthy Animals never happened.
But once he's unmasked and retired, and some time has passed for them to cash in on THAT moment, they'll circle around again to "hey, so funny thing, there was this one time in WCW...."

I hope it's just a delay more than an edict from WWE. They had no problem with him being shown unmasked in that A&E Biography from last year.
Didn't like that plain black wrestling gear underneath the overalls. It'd be fun to do a 2-in-1 with the attire his ToyBiz was based on underneath.

I was surprised to see it in the first place, since I figured WWE would not want any unmasked Rey Mysterio merch out there.

I don’t think it was Rey. Didn’t Rey tell someone how stoked he was to see a filthy animals Unmasked Rey coming?

It was the only figure from that wave I wanted and it was a really big want. Hopefully it circles back around. I do agree a second head without the horns would be ideal, but I thought it looked awesome regardless. Maybe we can eventually just get a 2-pack with him and Kidman on Creations.
