If I don’t preorder it from RSC, Target or Amazon and I don’t find it locally then I just don’t get it. So I’ve never gotten scalped as I don’t buy anything (especially new releases) off the secondary market. If it wasn’t something I didn’t want enough to preorder and I or a friend don’t find it locally then I just don’t get it.

If it's worth it to you, I wouldn't consider it being scalped. I paid $80 for the Ultimate Edition RA RVD. It was worth it because I never saw him in stores. I paid $60 or $70 for Elite 48 Cactus Jack. Again, worth it. And for the record, I'm not a scalper. The only time I've sold figures is when I regrettably sold my collection, twice. Took a loss both times. Damn, I have RVD on preorder at Walmart. I haven't been as active on the boards, is it another case of Walmart not fulfilling preorders?

In my opinion it is part of the game. Unless it is a friend or someone I know better, I don't expect them to give me better prices than online. Even then I'm fine with paying the price that the secondary market is asking. Nowadays I just buy the stuff I want, I usually check a couple of weeks to see if there are good offers. I remember though that the E11 CM Punk was the hottest thing for a couple of years until the E16 was released and they were always too expensive for me. (Same story) Will probably have to bite the bullet and order a E102 Gunther MOC. (shipped around 70-80$ ) Will buy the Top Picks one to display him loose. On top of that I have learned that waiting is usually bad for your wallet. (at least non-US, RSC deals etc. are great opportunities for you) Some older BAF figures are so hard to get, still need Michael Cole and will probably buy him for around 100$. I don't think that I have seen the SuSlam BAF Elite Bryan with the Cole parts since I restarted collecting. (Bryan has the head part)

Literally every single figure i've ever bought online
Buying in Australia sucks.
My Razor/HBK 2-pack pre-order got cancelled due to a payment issue, and now i can only find them for $130+...
Don't even get me started on trying to find a decent price for the Ultimate RVD.

Classic response. Just bringing the matches hoping to start the fire... How is this not considered trolling? Anyway, to give a productive response, I would say anything that is exclusive to Walmart. I purchased almost every Ruthless Aggression elite from Paul Mart. I luckily found 4 in person, but the rest were online exclusives to me. Because I’ve been here long enough to know threads like this never end well. It’s a grey area of opinion. What some consider “scalping”, others don’t. It’s all subject to the person asking. But who knows, maybe it’ll be different this time. This Scalping (to me) is charging someone well over retail for a current item which can be found on shelves at that point in time. Paying over the RRP for a figure no longer available on the mass market is not scalping. Value is obviously perceived by the buyer. What you value a figure at may differ to what I do, meaning I may be happy to pay more or less than you do.

Well according to the WalMart app he’s supposed to be here in two days, but it hasn’t shipped yet. (It has been delayed at least once already)

Outsiders Nash is the only one I can really think of....Ireland got Diesel & Not Nash but I needed him so I paid 45usd on ebay for him I think.
Once I performed a headswap he became a centrepiece of my collection so to me it was worth it

For those that are asking.... THIS is scalping: I also see people on social media asking "I'm here at the store - which one is the chase and how much could I get for it?" These are scalpers. Dumb scalpers, but still scalpers.... You are also a scalper if you clear off the entire shelf of new figures (for example, Monday Night Wars) with the intent to sell at ANY profit, even just $10. You might be exempt if you are buying for a friend, relative, or folks here on the boards who just need the help finding them..... My brother and I occasionally pick up figs for each other and only charge each other retail or retail + shipping. If you aren't buying them for a specific person - you are probably a scalper. You are probably a scalper if you are selling your "Pre-Orders" on Ebay and don't have the product in-hand yet..... I'm not sure who is buying these but I would steer clear..... Just my two cents.

I paid $50 for the TRU Vince McMahon figure. That may be the only figure I overpaid for.

Paying $100 this week for a SDCC exclusive, that came out in 2021 and sold out isn't being scalped.
I've never overpaid for a figure, if I wanted it, I'd buy it when it's available to me, whether at a store or on Ringside. I rarely pre-order anything, especially these days when things are cancelled all the time and you find stuff in stores before the pre-orders get fulfilled. If it's something I want bad enough I can usually get it.
Funny enough the only figure in the last year or so that I legitimately never found on my own and never saw in stores was the Legends D'Lo Brown chase. I've been kicking the tires about overpaying for it on ebay but not really sure if I feel like it. Either way, people aren't charging an arm and leg for it anyway, but it's still their prerogative. If someone is willing to pay $30+ for a figure that was $22 at Target, it's their business.

What defines “being scalped”? to most people on here, it's paying more than 1 cent over "MSRP"

I just saw your other post in the Walmart thread. Asking $250 for the set? I mean, c’mon now. Haha I'm soon gonna have to start scalping figures I don't want in order to be able to afford to buy the figures I want from other scalpers. I have the feeling that many supply chains have broken down due to the problems of recent years. For example, I've been looking for weeks to get an affordable Elite Gunther. Unfortunately I didn't collect last year so I have no idea how available current Elite figures are. Because of this, I actually often buy new figures I don't need in the hopes of trading 1:1 for a figure I do need. Does that make me a scalper too? In Europe (Germany), WWE figures are almost extinct and unavailable in retail stores. Amazon is charging just under 39€ ($45) for new Elites and unless Mattel changes this situation, it's not going to improve.

I've never sold a figure yet, except as I outlined - to my brother at cost which we occasionally do to help each other FIND these things. That being said, my collection has become too large and my budget has gotten smaller.... I may have to sell some of my collection down the road & downsize. But that's much different than clearing off a whole rack at Walmart & then putting them all up for sale on ebay. And NO, buying figures for potential trade is not scalping. Not at all. It's smart. I legit feel bad for you International folks, who Mattel either refuses to ship to or completely over-charges.

I will put the shoe on the other foot. Feel free to bag on me. I buy 2 of most everything that I own. Then I'll sit on my extra until I can sell it at a profit to cover the cost on the one for my collection. On a teacher salary with 2 young kids, not a ton of extra cash so that's the best way to justify collecting and being a part of a hobby that I just love.

I generally stubbornly refuse to buy from scalpers. If I missed out on a figure and return literal years later, that's fine. If you drive from store to store and buy up entire stock and list them on Facebook for triple the price, I just don't buy it. Living in Canada, my only option to get Ultimate Eddie was to pay $100. Eddie was tough to find stateside too, I still haven't seen on one store shelves I just got lucky enough to have a friend of a friend grab it for me somewhere else in the state.

That is actually collecting for me and not scalping. It is also important to remember that it is not so easy or cheap to store packaged figures. I see it more as an expense allowance that the seller has stored this figure and then I am happy to pay €100+ for older figures.

I mean, the reality is..... if the merchants just stocked these things better..... this wouldn't be an issue. You don't see a lot of Target Legends getting "scalped", at least not to the extent of the Walmart stuff.... because Target makes these relatively easily available - both in stores and via their website. It's the Walmart stuff that is really getting out of control. Because the collectors have no confidence that they'll actually be able to get them.
